Screen to Save This session focuses on how to engage community medical professionals to learn how to screen, assess, document, and refer their patients who reveal domestic violence and abuse. Learn how to develop a local educational project, about how and what to teach, what tools to provide, and also info about the Oklahoma domestic violence medical reporting statute that guides medical reporting of domestic violence. How Probation and Parole Can Help You This session discusses the various programs available as an alternative to incarceration including DUI/DRUG Court, Mental Heath Court, Sex Offenders, Parole and Electronic Monitoring/GPS. Officers will review the resources available to assist offenders. Officers will provide information on how clients are placed on probation or parole and the differences between the two. The different types of offenders will be covered and the various ways officers are able to address the clients needs while in the community. Money Management In Challenging Times for Children Participants will learn how to educate children of all ages about economic empowerment.
Domestic Violence Strangulation This training will give attendees an in-depth understanding of what Domestic Violence Strangulation is, including lengthy explanations and information on the 3 main forms of strangulation. It will cover the medical perspective, includingsigns and symptoms to look for, level s of lethality, the prevalence of Domestic Violence Strangulation, and will give law enforcement informative guidelines and tips on how to effectively investigate the crime of Domestic Violence Strangulation. 2:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. ~ Break 3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. ~ Breakout Sessions Techniques in Working with Groups This workshop will provide a variety of techniques that can be used in working with therapeutic and support groups targeting adults victims of domestic violence and children. Workshop will be broken into two parts: the first half will provide techniques in working with adult groups, the second will provide techniques in working with children s groups. Survivors of domestic and sexual violence still face challenges with being understood by the service systems designed to protect, treat and support them. Dr. Wells will speak about the impact on the professional response of crisis intervention worker in domestic and sexual violence programs, law enforcement officers andothers serving survivors. Compassion Fatigue This session will cover issues surrounding internal stress issues for services providers. Hispanic Culture & Competency: Hispanic Culture and Cultural Competency What constitutes cultural competency? What are some of the distinguishing characteristics and needs of the Hispanic community? What cultural-specific services can my agency provide to improve access for Hispanic victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking? Domestic Violence Court A panel discussion on the benefits and challenges of a Domestic Violence Court with supervised probation and a dedicated Court Services Officer. Catching the Cradle When the Bough Breaks This session will address the association between intimate partner violence and child maltreatment. Research will be reviewed which describes the co-occurrence of each, as well as the effects on children of witnessing and experiencing violence. Art Therapy This session will explore uses of art in therapy for both adults and children. Little Voices with Big Messages This session will cover children traumatized by interpersonal violence. An overview and understanding of the psychotherapeutic and developmental tenets of working with children exposed to interpersonal violence, abuse, crime and sudden traumatic death. Domestic Violence Court A panel discussion on the benefits and challenges of a Domestic Violence Court with supervised probation and a dedicated Court Services Officer. Investigation Techniques to Overcome the Consent Defense in Sexual Assault There are some serious obstacles to effective reporting, investigation and successful prosecution of defendant when the defense is claiming the consent defense for sexual assault. This session will present some procedures and ideas for obtaining information that can be used to overcome the consent defense in certain cases. Monitoring the Protective Order Process Based on experiences of the Tulsa Family Safety Court Watch project; the attendees will learn how to collect protective order data from their local court and document it for the purpose of beginning or aiding a coordinated community response to domestic violence. Mothers Who Kill Their Children This session will identify contributing cases for filicide and explore filicide as a risk for infant death. You only have 45 minutes?
