Screen to Save This session focuses on how to engage community medical professionals to learn how to screen, assess, document, and refer their patients who reveal domestic violence and abuse. Learn how to develop a local educational project, about how and what to teach, what tools to provide, and also info about the Oklahoma domestic violence medical reporting statute that guides medical reporting of domestic violence. How Probation and Parole Can Help You This session discusses the various programs available as an alternative to incarceration including DUI/DRUG Court, Mental Heath Court, Sex Offenders, Parole and Electronic Monitoring/GPS. Officers will review the resources available to assist offenders. Officers will provide information on how clients are placed on probation or parole and the differences between the two. The different types of offenders will be covered and the various ways officers are able to address the clients needs while in the community. Money Management In Challenging Times for Children Participants will learn how to educate children of all ages about economic empowerment.

Domestic Violence Strangulation This training will give attendees an in-depth understanding of what Domestic Violence Strangulation is, including lengthy explanations and information on the 3 main forms of strangulation. It will cover the medical perspective, includingsigns and symptoms to look for, level s of lethality, the prevalence of Domestic Violence Strangulation, and will give law enforcement informative guidelines and tips on how to effectively investigate the crime of Domestic Violence Strangulation. 2:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. ~ Break 3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. ~ Breakout Sessions Techniques in Working with Groups This workshop will provide a variety of techniques that can be used in working with therapeutic and support groups targeting adults victims of domestic violence and children. Workshop will be broken into two parts: the first half will provide techniques in working with adult groups, the second will provide techniques in working with children s groups. Best Practices for Native Victims This interactive workshop will engage participants in discussion on the unique barriers facing Native American victims in state systems, from reporting and investigation to courtroom advocacy. Oklahoma Legislative Update The session will cover the 2009 Oklahoma Legislative session with changes that effect domestic and sexual violence in our state. Colaborating for Oklahoma s Children A panel discussion on the development, implementation and evaluation of SAFETY FIRST, a shelter based intervention for children coping with the impact of domestic violence exposure. 8:00 a.m. ~ Registration opens Thursday, June 18, 2009 9:00 a.m. - 10:15 a.m. ~ General Session - Are We Keepers? Survivors of domestic and sexual violence still face challenges with being understood by the service systems designed to protect, treat and support them. Dr. Wells will speak about the impact on the professional response of crisis intervention worker in domestic and sexual violence programs, law enforcement officers andothers serving survivors. Emphasis is placed upon developing the reservoir of empathy neededto overcome and push through our personal biases to offer the most responsive service possible. 10:15 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. ~ Break 10:30 a.m. - 11:45 a.m. ~ Breakout Sessions

Compassion Fatigue This session will cover issues surrounding internal stress issues for services providers. Hispanic Culture & Competency: Hispanic Culture and Cultural Competency What constitutes cultural competency? What are some of the distinguishing characteristics and needs of the Hispanic community? What cultural-specific services can my agency provide to improve access for Hispanic victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking? Domestic Violence Court A panel discussion on the benefits and challenges of a Domestic Violence Court with supervised probation and a dedicated Court Services Officer. Catching the Cradle When the Bough Breaks This session will address the association between intimate partner violence and child maltreatment. Research will be reviewed which describes the co-occurrence of each, as well as the effects on children of witnessing and experiencing violence. Using Safe Dates in the Classroom This workshop will discuss strategies and techniques for implementing the Safe Dates curriculum in the classroom. 11:45 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. ~ Break 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. ~ Lunch - Recognitions and Achievements 1:00 p.m. - 1:15 ~ Break 1:15 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. ~ Breakout Sessions Stalking This session will cover stalking basics. Racial and Ethnic Diversity for Service Providers An interactive presentation that focuses on the subjectivity of biases, situations encountered by diverse groups when seeking services, and what service providers can do to embrace diversity and improve access. Art Therapy This session will explore uses of art in therapy for both adults and children. Little Voices with Big Messages This session will cover children traumatized by interpersonal violence. An overview and understanding of the psychotherapeutic and developmental tenets of working with children exposed to interpersonal violence, abuse, crime and sudden traumatic death. This workshop will give participants a framework for creating a short persuasive talk to inform about your services and inspire the audience to join in prevention efforts. Domestic Violence Court A panel discussion on the benefits and challenges of a Domestic Violence Court with supervised probation and a dedicated Court Services Officer. Investigation Techniques to Overcome the Consent Defense in Sexual Assault There are some serious obstacles to effective reporting, investigation and successful prosecution of defendant when the defense is claiming the consent defense for sexual assault. This session will present some procedures and ideas for obtaining information that can be used to overcome the consent defense in certain cases. Monitoring the Protective Order Process Based on experiences of the Tulsa Family Safety Court Watch project; the attendees will learn how to collect protective order data from their local court and document it for the purpose of beginning or aiding a coordinated community response to domestic violence. Mothers Who Kill Their Children This session will identify contributing cases for filicide and explore filicide as a risk for infant death. You only have 45 minutes? Part 2 of 2 8:00 a.m. ~ Registration opens Friday, June 19, 2009 8:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. ~ General Session - Stalking the Stalker This session will explore the San Diego DistrictAtorney s ofice stalking the stalker multi-disciplinary approach to prosecuting and managing stalking and threat cases. 9:30 a.m. - 9:45 a.m. ~ Break 9:45 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. ~ Breakout Sessions Marie s Story: A Lesson in Persistence and Perseverance The focus of this presentation is to tell the story of Marie and inform attendees about resources across the nation. Introductory training in SAFETY FIRST This multi part training will provide shelter advocates and counselors with an introductory training in SAFETY FIRST, a shelter based intervention for children coping with the impact of domestic violence exposure. Part 1 of 2. Legal Issues for Undocumented/Documented Victims This session will cover immigration issues faced by victims of domestic and sexual violence including who qualifies for permanent residence, U visa status and/or asylum-part 1 of 2. Using Expert Witnesses - Melissa Blanton, Oklahoma District Attorneys Council, OKC - The session will host a discussion of the use of experts in domestic and sexual violence prosecutions including who is an expert and how prosecutors should use experts.

Differences in Violence Against Women With and Without Disabilities The workshop will describe violence against women rates among women with and without a disability using recent data and will identify disparities in intimate partner violence rates for women with a disability. 11:00 am - 11:15 am ~ Break 11:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. ~ Breakout Sessions Guns and Perpetrators An overview of federal gun laws and how those relate to your domestic violence clients Introductory training in SAFETY FIRST This multi part training will provide shelter advocates and counselors with an introductory training in SAFETY FIRST, a shelter based intervention for children coping with the impact of domestic violence exposure. This Law Enforcement panel presentation will focus on the provisions of VAWA 2005 and common law enforcement practices pertaining to the use of Polygraph examinations in sexual assault and domestic violence investigations.
