Twenty-First Century Willow Creek Woman, Alberta Lambert Alberta Lambert has lived through a century of time. She was born on December 1, 1916 and celebrated her 100th birthday last year. Alberta is a widow to Clifton Lambert, and has two daughters and a son. Alberta lived in Ohio all her life until moving to Virginia in 2010 to be closer to her daughters, Dee and Barbara. Alberta and her five sisters were raised by their father, a farmer in Belle Center, Ohio. Alberta s mother left the family when Alberta was only five years old, leaving the eldest sister to take over many responsibilities. As a child, Alberta and her family attended church Alberta in 1944 regularly and Alberta loved playing around on any piano she could find. One day, the family doctor s wife heard Alberta just playing around on the piano and knew she had a God-given talent. She graciously offered to pay for Alberta to start taking piano lessons. At the age of 12, Alberta s affluent aunt and uncle asked her father if Alberta could come live with them and help her aunt. The couple loved and blessed Alberta. They continued her piano lessons and enrolled her in a new school where Alberta excelled and was the class president in her senior year. After high school, Alberta worked for the U.S. Postal Service and then at Kroger Grocery Store. She also played the piano at her church. Clifton, Alberta s future husband, was a member of the church s men s quartet. One evening, while the men s group and Alberta were practicing at Ms. Ramey s home, Ms. Ramsey played matchmaker. She suggested that Clifton escort Alberta home. That was the beginning of their courtship and to being married for 53 years. Soon after the couple wed, Clifton was drafted into the Army in WWII. The couple were apart for four years but corresponded through love letters and only twice by telephone. Years later, Alberta composed memoir journals of the sweet letters that Clifton had saved and what it was like to live though the war from a bride s perspective. Alberta will speak on this topic in one of this month s Coffee Chats. The couple built a home in Huntsville, Ohio, where they raised their two daughters and son. The family were active members of their church and Alberta was the church s pianist and organist. One day, a church member asked if Alberta would consider teaching her daughter piano lessons. Alberta agreed and that was the beginning of Alberta s piano teaching career and 600 future students! Alberta moved to Willow Creek in the spring of 2017 and instantly won the hearts of the residents. Often you will hear Alberta s beautiful piano notes wafting through the community, Amazing Grace How Sweet the Sound. Alberta, 100 years young! Mary Penuel s 90th Birthday!
