GENERAL INFORMATION Conference description and goals The 32nd Annual Minnesota Geriatric Care Conference is designed to update the clinical knowledge and skills of those who care for older adults in a variety of settings, including the community, hospitals, long-term care, ambulatory settings, and others. A variety of topics will be addressed at this conference to assist participants to be knowledgeable and flexible in the care and education of patients and their families. Fireside Chat will be back, by popular demand. The goals of the conference are to: Discuss common conditions that present challenges to care. Identify holistic approaches to use in caring for the elderly. Describe pharmacological interventions and interactions in the elderly. Featured Faculty Nick Mezacapa has been ordained to the Episcopal Priesthood for the last 31 years. He has served as the rector of Calvary Episcopal Church, right across the street from Mayo Clinic for the past 27 years. Before coming to Minnesota he served churches in Iowa, Michigan, and New York. A graduate of Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio, he was trained as a teacher and athletics coach and worked in the field for seven years. It was after his teaching career that he attended Colgate/Rochester/Bexley Hall/Crozer Divinity School in Rochester, New York to receive his Master s in Divinity Degree and subsequent ordination to the priesthood. Reverend Mezacapa brings his experience as teacher, coach, priest, husband and father to his presentations with passion and authenticity. His experiences as a prostate cancer survivor, radio personality and an active thespian combine to generate a style and urgency that is unique. He has delivered his presentations to a wide variety of groups across the country, focusing on the subject of Survivorship and Spirituality. You will find his perspective refreshing and inspiring! Poster call for abstracts You are invited to submit an abstract (350 word limit) for a poster on innovations and projects related to care of the elderly. Completed abstracts must be submitted by Wednesday, January 19, 2015. The primary presenter is responsible for the abstract content. Submission signifies the intent of the submitter(s) to present the poster at the March 11, 2015, 32nd Annual Minnesota Geriatric Care Conference in. Conference participants are expected to assume costs related to travel, accommodations, and registration. To submit an abstract, you must register for the conference at https://cne.education-registration.com. Attach the abstract and all authors curriculum vitae. Notification of accepted abstract and commitment for presentation at the conference will be made by Wednesday, February 4, 2015. If selected, abstracts will be printed in the conference syllabus.

GENERAL INFORMATION Date and location The conference will be held Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at Mayo Civic Center, 30 Civic Center Drive SE,. Intended audience This conference is designed for healthcare professionals who care for geriatric patients in acute, long term, and home care settings including registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, social workers, nursing home administrators, and nurse practitioners. Continuing education credit Mayo Continuing Nursing Education is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation. Participants can earn up to 7 ANCC nursing contact hours for attendance at the conference and completion of the evaluation. The Minnesota Board of Examiners for Nursing Home Administrators has approved 7 hours of continuing education. Mayo Clinic Section of Social Work has been designated by the Minnesota Board of Social Work as an approved continuing education provider. This conference fulfills requirements for up to 5.83 continuing education hours. Register before February 16, 2015 The conference registration fee of $150 includes conference materials, breakfast, lunch, and break refreshments. A student rate of $85 is available. Please bring proof of current student status to the conference (for example, a copy of your student identification card). Pre-registration is required and preferred by Monday, February 16, 2015. Registrations received after February 16, 2015, will be accepted on a spaceavailable basis. Visit https://cne.education-registration.com to register. Cancellations If you cancel your participation in this conference, your registration fee, less an administrative fee, will be refunded when notification is received by Mayo Continuing Nursing Education before February 16, 2015 (fax#: 507-266-6910 or e-mail: cne@mayo.edu). No refunds will be made on or after February 16, 2015. Mayo Continuing Nursing Education reserves the right to cancel or postpone any conference due to unforeseen circumstances. In the unlikely event Mayo Continuing Nursing Education must cancel or postpone this conference, Mayo Continuing Nursing Education will refund the registration fee, but is not responsible for any related costs, charges, or expenses to participants, including fees assessed by airline/ travel/lodging agencies.
