Rotary District 9630 Global Grant Scholarship for 2018-2019 Rotary District 9630 which covers areas of Brisbane, south of the Brisbane River and west to the Darling Downs and Charleville is seeking applications for the Global Grant Scholarship, where the successful applicant will commence their studies during the 2018/19 year. The Global Grant Scholarship provides funding for post graduate level study at an international university. The Terms and Conditions for Rotary Foundation Global Grants must be complied with and potential applicants should consider whether these are acceptable to them before applying for the scholarship. District 9630 will offer US$15,000 which will be matched by the Rotary Foundation if the scholarship is to proceed. Assuming that the Rotary Foundation agrees to match the scholarship, the preferred applicant could expect a scholarship totalling US$30,000. Applicants will only be considered if they have the full support of a Rotary Club within District 9630. Applicants are encouraged to submit their application in the format suggested at Attachment A but other formats will be accepted where the required information is included. Applications must be submitted attached to an email and accompanied by supporting documents. The District 9630 closing date for all applications is Sunday 24 March 2018. In early April 2018, District 9630 will conduct a selection process which will include an interview. District 9630 will make its decision within two weeks of the interviews being held. District 9630 will then work with the preferred applicant to assist them prepare their application for consideration by the Rotary Foundation. This can only be done on-line and the preferred applicant will be given the necessary access. While District 9630 will actively assist and support the preferred applicant to present their case to the Rotary Foundation, District 9630 cannot guarantee that the Rotary Foundation will approve the provision of a Global Grant Scholarship. When submitting a Global Grant Application for a Scholarship, District 9630 must provide proof of university admission for the prospective scholar to the Foundation. The applicant must also provide the Foundation with acceptable results from a Foundation-approved language test, if the applicant is planning to attend an institution that teaches in a language other then English. The proof of admission and language test results are not required when submitting the initial application to District 9630, but the applicant will need to obtain the necessary evidence within what may be a short time period of being advised that they are the preferred applicant.
Global Grant Scholarships Key Points It must be in respect of graduate level study that relates to one or more of the six areas of focus being: o Peace and conflict prevention/resolution o Disease prevention and treatment o Water and sanitation o Maternal and child health o Basic education and literacy o Economic and community development Be for a study term of one to four academic years The scholar must: o Leave District 9630 o Study outside of Australia o Live in another country where there is a Rotary District o Have sufficient language proficiency for their proposed study When considering whether a scholarship applicant meets one or more of the six areas of focus, District 9630 will be guided by the expectations of the Rotary Foundation. 1. Peace and conflict prevention/resolution The Foundation enables Rotarians to promote the practice of peace and conflict prevention/resolution by: 1. Training leaders, including potential youth leaders, to prevent and mediate conflict 2. Supporting peace-building in communities and regions affected by conflict 3. Supporting studies for career-minded professionals related to peace and conflict prevention/resolution 2. Disease prevention and treatment The Foundation enables Rotarians to prevent disease and promote health by: 1. Improving the capacity of local health care professionals 2. Promoting disease prevention programs, with the goal of limiting the spread of communicable diseases and reducing the incidences of and complications from non-communicable diseases 3. Enhancing the health infrastructure of local communities 4. Educating and mobilizing communities to help prevent the spread of major diseases 5. Preventing physical disability resulting from disease or injury 6. Supporting studies for career-minded professionals related to disease prevention and treatment
3. Water and Sanitation The Foundation enables Rotarians to ensure that people have sustainable access to water and sanitation by: 1. Providing equitable community access to safe water, improved sanitation and hygiene 2. Strengthening the ability of communities to develop, fund and maintain sustainable water and sanitation systems 3. Supporting programs that enhance communities awareness of the benefits of safe water, sanitation and hygiene 4. Supporting studies for career-minded professionals related to water and sanitation 4. Maternal and child health The Foundation enables Rotarians to improve the health of mothers and their children by: 1. Reducing the mortality and morbidity rate for children under the age of five 2. Reducing the maternal mortality and morbidity rate 3. Improving access to essential medical services, trained community health leaders and health care providers for mothers and their children 4. Supporting studies for career-minded professionals related to maternal and child health 5. Basic education and literacy The Foundation enables Rotarians to ensure that all people have sustainable access to basic education and literacy by: 1. Involving the community to support programs that strengthen the capacity of communities to provide basic education and literacy to all 2. Increasing adult literacy in communities 3. Working to reduce gender disparity in education 4. Supporting studies for career-mined professionals related to basic education and literacy 6. Economic and community development The Foundation enables Rotarians to invest in people by creating sustainable, measureable and long term economic improvements in their communities and livelihoods by: 1. Building the capacity of entrepreneurs, community leaders, local organizations and community networks to support economic development in impoverished communities 2. Developing opportunities for productive work 3. Reducing poverty in underserved communities 4. Supporting studies for career-minded professionals related to economic and community development
