PL-1 Residents The Endocrinology elective is available to all interns for either a two-week or four-week time commitment. During this elective, interns will gain experience in both inpatient and outpatient management of endocrinology patients. Interns are expected to attend and be active participants in all required clinics and to maintain their weekly continuity clinic. Additionally, interns are required to complete consultations on hospitalized patients and be prepared to present and discuss the patients on rounds with the attending when asked to do so. Interns will also round daily on all inpatients and consultations, document these evaluations and communicate recommendations to the inpatient team. At the end of the rotation each resident is required to prepare a formal 30-minute discussion of a pediatric endocrine problem in a case based format. Interns may also have the opportunity to present a case at Endorama, a weekly conference for the Adult and Pediatric Endocrinology Departments. A. Patient Care: 1. Demonstrate a clear understanding of the pathophysiology and management of children with familial short stature, constitutional growth delay and growth hormone deficiency 5. Demonstrate a clear understanding of the physiology of normal pubertal development, and the pathophysiology and management of children with precocious puberty and delayed puberty including primary gonadal dysgenesis and constitutional 6. Demonstrate a clear understanding of the pathophysiology and management of children with Hashimoto thyroiditis, hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism 7. Demonstrate a clear understanding of the pathophysiology and management of children with disorders of PTH, calcium and phosphate metabolism including hypocalcemia, hypercalcemia, hypophosphatemia, and rickets 8. Demonstrate a clear understanding of the pathophysiology and management of children with adrenal gland disorders, including Addison disease and Cushing syndrome 9.
