PARISH STAFF Parish Office: 343-6657 From Fr. Burns Dear Parishioners Several parishioners have asked me, What is the diocesan process to name a new pastor? All Baton Rouge diocesan clergy know that there is an established protocol for the naming of a new pastor and for clergy transfers. Keep in mind now, that I am using my own words to inform you of this process. If the diocese of Baton Rouge intends to transfer a priest, or if a priest wishes to transfer, or if a Parish is vacant for any reason, then by the end of February of each year the vacancy is published to all Baton Rouge Diocesan clergy. This allows them the time to discern their interest in the advertised vacancies. If they do become interested in any vacancy then they apply to the Baton Rouge Diocesan Clergy Personnel Board. The Personnel Board is delegated by the Bishop to conduct interviews and to make recommendations. Interviews are conducted during the month of March and if necessary the month of April. The Personnel Board consists of priest who are full-time pastors. When interviews are complete the board will make recommendations concerning the vacancies to the Bishop. The Bishop may accept any and all of their recommendations or he may choose to appoint someone else. As Bishop of the Diocese it is solely his authority to appoint pastors and associate pastors. Due to the complexity of parish and clergy calendars, the Baton Rouge Diocese makes its best effort to make clergy transfers effective on the first weekend of July, if possible. This is true for pastors and pastor associate positions. I am confident that this process will be complete within this approximate time period for the appointment of your next pastor and associate pastors. I would like to share with you one of my all-time favorite quotes from St John Chrysostom which was in this past Friday s Office Reading. Prayer and converse with God is a supreme good: it is a partnership and union with God. As the eyes of the body are enlightened when they see light, so our spirit, when it is intent on God, is illumined by his infinite light. I do not mean the prayer of outward observance but prayer from the heart, not confined to fixed times or periods, but continuous throughout the day and night. Cont d on Page 3 Fr. STATIONS OF THE CROSS Each Friday of Lent: 8:30 a.m. (immediately after the 8:00 a.m. mass) & at 5:30 p.m. THE PRIVATE RITE OF THE SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION Every Saturday, from 3:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Also on Wednesdays: March 18 & 25 & April 1, From 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Cont d from Page 2 Our spirit should be quick to reach out toward God not only when it is engaged in meditation; at other times also, when it is carrying out its duties, caring for the needy, performing works of charity, giving generously in the service of others, our spirit should long for God, and call him to mind, so that these works may be seasoned with the salt of God s love, and so make a palatable offering to the Lord of the universe. Throughout the whole of our lives we may enjoy the benefit that comes from prayer if we devote a great deal of time to it. Prayer is the light of the spirit, true knowledge of God, mediating between God and man. The spirit, raised up to heaven by prayer, clings to God with the utmost tenderness; like a child crying tearfully for its mother, it craves the milk that God provides. It seeks the satisfaction of its own desires, and receives gifts outweighing the whole world of nature. Yours in Christ, Please Join us for the upcoming Social of ST. STEWARDSHIP OF OFFERING RENEWAL Faith! a Gift to be Shared Through Stewardship We are a large Catholic community called by God to follow him; to live out the message of Christ in love and service to all. In the midst of a consumerdriven society we will unite to focus our mission on God s presence as the center of our lives. We commit our time, talent and treasure to build God s kingdom on earth. Our annual Stewardship of Offering Renewal is currently in progress. At this time each year our parishioners prayerfully consider their gifts of time, talent and treasure they will offer in 2015. Thank you to all of the wonderful parishioners who have already returned their pledges for 2015, including many, many families who are using bank drafts in order to fulfill their commitments for the year. We are striving for 100% parishioner participation, so please return your commitment card as soon as possible. What is the motivation for such giving? Gratitude for the generous gifts of God, including our faith. Especially at this time of year we are reminded of the greatest gift: God s Son, coming to earth as one of us. In the last several weeks you received a letter at your home from Fr. Gerald Burns along with a new Stewardship of Offering Renewal Packet for 2015. If you did not have an opportunity to bring your commitment card during the last few weekends, please drop it into the collection plate at any mass. There are extra blank cards and envelopes at the church entrances and in the parish office. Please take a moment to prayerfully consider your gifts for 2015. Thank you for all the gifts you have given our parish is abundantly blessed! FR.
