Blue Comet Wrestlers win State Championships A weekly electronic publication of Asheboro City Schools Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel. -Socrates Congratulations to Sawyer Davidson and Nic Coe who became NC State Champions of their respective weight classes this weekend in Greensboro. Tino Harrison also medaled, placing 4th. The Blue Comets team placed 6th overall. Thanks to Coach Berrier and Coach Tornburg for their leadership this season and to all of those who traveled to Greensboro this weekend to support our athletes. February 23, 2014 What s Inside? 1. 1) ACS Family News - Congratulations to Charlie (SAMS) and Molly (NAMS) Lyons on the birth of their daughter, Isley Eoline, on Friday, Feburary 20. - We extend our deepest sympathies to Nicole Cox, Data Manager at Lindley Park, on the loss of her grandfather, L.W. Leonard, on Thursday, February 12. 2) Mark III Annual Enrollment Mark III representatives will be in our district next week on March 2-6 for the annual enrollment in the Cafeteria Benefits Plan. Please see the Enrollment Letter that describes the benefits that are offered. The Enrollment Schedule is for those who prefer to meet in person with a Mark III representative. The Mark III representatives will have sign-up sheets for the individual appointments Also, the Self-Enrollment Letter is provides information about online enrollment for SOME of the benefits. You must meet with an enroller in person for certain benefits as described in the attachment. 4) Revised Calendar The Asheboro City Schools calendar has been updated to reflect the four days missed this week due to inclement weather. Changes are as follows: - March 6, previously scheduled as a Teacher Workday, will now be a regular instructional day. - April 8 and 9, previously scheduled as Annual Leave days, will now be regular instructional days. - April 10, previously scheduled as a Teacher Workday, will now be a regular instructional day. Click here to access the revised calendar. 5) Teachey Spaghetti Dinner & Auction Teachey had an outstanding turnout for their annual PTO Spaghetti Dinner and Auction on Saturday, February 7. Approximately $6,200 was raised and will serve as a resource for future school needs. Students were able to participate in the auction using their Tiger Tickets. Please remember, this is NOT the enrollment for your health insurance. That will be a separate enrollment at a later date. 3) Proud To Be A Blue Comet? We celebrate 110 years of service on March 6! As a part of our celebration, we want to highlight some of our alumni. If you are an AHS grad, please complete our online survey. If not, please share with your friends! 6) Lindley Park Dining with Dads Event The annual Dining with Dads event was held on Friday, February 13 with over 160 fathers and male loved ones attending with their students. 7) Tech Tip Searching SchoolNet for Resources by Standard. Watch the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yvvtqmgtl48 8) SAMS Battle of the Books Team Wins First Place The SAMS Battle of the Books Team took first place out of 38 teams at the NC Beta Club Convention Competition earlier this month. The Beta Club competition is a different format than the state competition and consists of a 4-member team competing on a written multiple choice timed test on 15 books. The participants competing were: Whitney Hoffman, Morgan Brower, Laura Gomez, and Jessie Holmes. Other winners at the competition included Georgianna Antoniou placing in the top 8 for special talent. She performed a selection playing the harp.

9) AAEOP Spring Fundraiser The Asheboro Association of Educational Office Professionals organization is sponsoring a spring fundraiser with RADA Cutlery to raise funds for their scholarship fund. Items for sale include knives, utensils, stoneware, cookbooks, culinary mixes, and other gift items. Orders will be taken through March 31 and items will be delivered by mid April. If interested, please see an AAEOP member or your school secretary for an order form. They wrote non-fiction text about arctic animals for their informational writings.
