Children with Cancer UK JOB PROFILE Job Title: Trust Fundraising Manager Salary: 38,000 Contract: Permanent Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week Reporting to: Head of Major Relationships Job Purpose The Trust Fundraising Manager will be responsible for devising and implementing a successful programme of fundraising from trusts, foundations and other non-statutory grant making bodies. Background Information Children with Cancer UK, is the leading national children s charity dedicated to the fight against childhood cancer. Our aims are to determine the causes, find the cure, improve treatments and provide care for children with cancer. The charity was founded in 1988 following the death of 14-year old Paul O Gorman to leukaemia and, just nine months later, his sister Jean, also to cancer. Before his death Paul s parents promised to help other children with leukaemia and, today, we fund life-saving research in to childhood leukaemia as well as all other forms of other childhood cancers. We fund life-saving research into the causes, prevention and treatment of childhood cancer. We fund innovative welfare projects to provide better care for young cancer patients and their families. We campaign to raise awareness of childhood cancer, to protect more children and to improve the lives of young cancer patients, today and for future generations. About the Role We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced trust fundraiser who has the skills and approach to initiate a successful strategy for building income at Children with Cancer UK. You will need at least five years of experience in building relationships at all levels and types of trust donor. 1
The successful post-holder will have excellent research skills; a flexible approach to inter-personal relationships; good team working skills; high quality writing skills; and, a meticulous approach to planning. Responsibilities Fundraising Management and Implementation To develop and manage the trust fundraising strategy for Children with Cancer UK. To establish tracking systems for the monitoring of this strategy. To set ambitious and realistic financial targets for this strategy. To research and maintain a library of information on charitable funding sources and their policies for grant making, community involvement and promotional activity. To research, support and prepare persuasive fundraising proposals and packages to funders. To co-ordinate the approaches to trusts and other donors in collaboration with the major relationships team. To be able to develop both re-active and pro-active cultivation plans, be able to develop excellent rapport with donors and establish a repertoire of engagement activities. To assist the Chief Executive with their direct communications with funders: providing briefings, assisting with negotiations and fulfilling donor requirements, such as reporting obligations. To implement an agreed rolling programme of applications and approaches to funders, contributing to an annual fundraising target for the Department. To maintain and develop contacts amongst funders, to promote better understanding and goodwill towards our charity. To report back to funders on a regular basis on the projects they support, ensuring they are kept fully updated. To assist at fundraising and other events, including organising project visits for funders. To ensure that all donor administration is undertaken promptly. 2
To support the Department line manager and your colleagues to meet the aims and objectives of the team. To share information and advise on changing external trends, issues and news within the charity. To service own administrative needs. Database and Administrative Management To develop and maintain accurate and up-to-date information on all current and potential funders. To be responsible for recording and maintaining records on the in-house database Raiser s Edge, ensuring that donor development work is recorded accurately. To ensure that maximum use is made of the database for donor management and development. General Duties To ensure that all fundraising activities for which this post is responsible are carried out in accordance with the charity s policies, to the highest ethical standards and in accordance with legal requirements, best fundraising practice and external guidelines. and managing budgets and evidence of hitting income targets Over three years experience of Trust fundraising, and demonstrable examples of cultivating contacts Experience of dealing with senior-level contacts both internally and externally Experience of securing funds from a wide range of grant makers, from sophisticated organisations such as the Big Lottery Fund to less formal family run charitable trusts. Experience of planning and managing budgets and evidence of hitting income targets Qualifications Degree or equivalent Knowledge Extensive knowledge of the Institute of Fundraising Code of Practice for Trust Fundraising Good understanding of other areas of fundraising, in particular Corporate, Major Donors and legacies Understanding of the range of research tools for Trust Fundraising.
