Birmingham Kappa League 3 rd Annual Kane Klassic High School Stepshow Dear Organization, This letter is to request your participation in our inaugural Kane Klassic High School Stepshow & After Party. Our sole purpose for this show is to recapture a historical part of African American dance and bonding. This stepshow will highlight the talents of the Metropolitan Birmingham and West Alabama stepping organizations. The Kappa League Kane Klassic High School Stepshow will take place on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at the Boutwell Auditorium at 6:00 p.m. All participants should check in by 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2013. This stepshow will be a great opportunity to represent your organization and to energize a new and exciting experience in the Birmingham Metropolitan area. There will be a 1 st Place prize of $250.00 each to the top Male and Female organization respectively. Please review the rules and regulations of the show to ensure an efficient performance. The event will also introduce the Magic City Kanemaster Competition. Individuals will be allowed to showcase their skill working the wood (kane twirling). There will be a prize of $50.00 awarded to the individual deemed worthy to be called the Kanemaster There will also be a Shake like a Kappa Leaguer contest for the young ladies with a prize to the winner of $50.00. The Stepshow, Kanemaster, and Shake Competitions will be judged by a panel of six judges. We are very excited about hosting this event and are very excited your organization will be a part of it. All members of your organization that are not actively participating in the stepshow will have to pay general admission to enter the stepshow. (Members participating in the show must be listed on the attached registration form). General Admission is $10.00 at the door. General Admission will include the After Party. The After Party will be held in the auditorium immediately following the conclusion of the stepshow. All step participants and persons attending the stepshow will be admitted to the party at no additional cost. This is the biggest fundraiser for the Birmingham Kappa League. Birmingham Kappa League Inaugural Kane Klassic Stepshow Step Show Rules 1. Teams will be judged on a 50-point system. There will be six (6) judges. 2. Teams will be judged on the following areas: v Synchronization (1-10) pts. v Appearance (1-10) pts. v Complexity (1-10) pts. v Originality (1-10) pts. v Crowd Response (1-5) pts. v Energy (1-5) pts. 3. Each team will be allowed ten (10) minutes to perform their show. (2 minute grace period) If the team surpasses the allotted time, the team will not be disqualified, but will suffer a five-point penalty. The introduction of the team starts the clock. 4. The use of profanity will not be tolerated during any portion of your team s performance. Please edit music to ensure clean versions of songs. Any violation of this rule will cause an immediate disqualification and forfeiture of any possible awards and/or appearance fees. This includes vulgar acts (strictly enforced!!!) 5. If you are tardy for check in you will be deducted five points. All participants and chaperones must be at the site of the event by 4:45pm. 6. All props used in your performance need to be picked up at the conclusion of your performance; there will be a five point penalty for those teams who do not remove all their belongings from the stage. These Props that are not allowed!!! a) Fireworks or any explosive devices b) Open containers of food (whipped cream, syrup, honey, etc.) c) Male or Female Underwear 7. If part of your show (steps, chants, etc.) disrespects or degrades any other organization, Ten points will be deducted. Actions of this nature have a tendency to spark altercations between organizations. 8. All music will need to be on one CD. 2
