Career Matchmaker Self-Assessments Module 3 Use Career Matchmaker in the Career Cruising software to complete electronic surveys of your interests, skills, and educational levels that you would like to achieve. Career Matchmaker will return a list of career pathways and suggest 40 careers matched to your responses on the interest inventory. The list is ordered in terms of your interests. The top 10 are suggested to be the best matches. You will use three options in the Career Matchmaker section: Your Likes and Dislikes You will answer 39 interest-related questions to find career pathways and careers suited to your interests. My Skills You will answer a skills assessment of 45 questions to help you determine if you have the skills necessary for careers that match your interests. Choose a Level of Education You will indicate the level(s) or type(s) of education that you would like to achieve. It s important to answer the questions honestly so you get career suggestions that match your interests. You ll then pick which careers you want to learn more about. You ll Save your four career choices and your two career-pathways to your EDP. If Career Cruising is not open, access the program at www.careercruising.com and type in your username and password. Activity 1: Career Matchmaker Interest Assessment - Your Likes and Dislikes Start a new Career Matchmaker session If this is the first time you are using Career Matchmaker, 1. Click on the purple Matchmaker button at the top of the Main screen and type in your First Name and Last Name 2. Click on Start now. Do Not hit the browser s Back Button (back arrow) while completing the interest survey. 3. Complete the 39 interest-related questions in the first set. Click on any of the faces or the white box to answer each question. Please take time to answer each question carefully and honestly to get results that suit you. You must complete all 39 questions to save the session. Try not to use the response Does not matter A=Dislike very much B=Dislike C=Does not matter D=Like E=Like very much Click on the More Info button beside a question if you need more information about it. 4. Review your results on the Career Suggestions screen. (1) 40 career suggestions are listed under Interest Rank. These match how you answered the questions. The better matches are at the top. (2) Matching Career Pathways are listed in order of suitability under Michigan Career Pathways. 5. Save your results so they will not be lost. Click on the grey Save to my EDP button under Other Options: on the right side of the screen. You will get the following: Click the Go! button next to Yes. I have an EDP. You ll get a message The item has been saved to your EDP. Click OK to return to your EDP. 6. The Career Matchmaker Assessment Results are saved to the EDP Career Portfolio. The Top 10 Career Matchmaker Suggestions and the suggested Career Pathways are saved to the EDP. They are found under the EDP Career Portfolio tab. 7. You can always view the Matchmaker assessment results saved in the EDP. a. Click on EDP at the top of the screen and type in your EDP username and password to login to the EDP Career Portfolio. b. Click on the blue Assessment Results option under the Career Portfolio tab. c. The top 10 suggested careers and the suggested career pathways are listed under the Career Matchmaker tab. d. Click the See All Results link to view all 40 career suggestions. 8. You can answer more questions to improve matches to careers. Click on the Answer more questions link in the Improve Results box on the Career Suggestions screen. Answer more questions. Click the grey View career suggestions so far button and Career Matchmaker will update the list of career suggestions. Occasionally, the suggested Career Pathways may also change. Be sure to save the new career results to your EDP by clicking on Save to my EDP. When you have finished your work, click the grey Logout button to close the EDP. Retrieve your results from a Matchmaker session that you ve saved to your EDP If you have already saved your Matchmaker results in your EDP, you retrieve and review your list of career suggestions and career pathwayw suggestions. 1. Click on the purple Matchmaker button at the top of the Main screen and click on the grey Login Now! button. 2. Because you have already created your EDP, Type in your EDP Username and EDP Password. and click on the grey Login button. 3. This is Matchmaker s Career Suggestions screen and the career list that you previously saved. Reminder: Be sure to click on the grey Save to my EDP button to save the list of careers and any changes that may occur throughout your work in Career Cruising. Activity 2: Career Matchmaker Skills Assessment My Skills 1. If you are not on the Career Suggestions screen, go to the Career Matchmaker section. Click on the Matchmaker button and follow option #2 on the previous page. - OR - If you are in the EDP Career Portfolio Assessment Results option for Career Matchmaker, click on the grey Go to Career Matchmaker button at the bottom of the screen. 2. Click on the Complete My Skills link on the right side of the Career Suggestions screen in the My Skills box. My Skills is an assessment of 45 skill areas. It is used to help you determine if you have the skills necessary for careers that match your interests. 3. Take time to answer each question carefully. Rate your skill level by choosing from the range of answers: A=I am highly skilled B=I am skilled C=I have some skill D=I don t have this skill E=I can t answer this 4. Results are returned for each suggested career on the Career Suggestions screen under the Skills Score title and also on the Suitable for You? screen. Your list of career suggestions is still ordered in terms of your interests. The box to the right of each of your suggested careers, the Skills Score, indicates how well your skills match the requirements of a particular career. Remember you can always learn new skills, especially if your skill set is not a good match. You will be matched to suitable careers based on your responses. 5. On the Career Suggestions page, click on the grey Save to my EDP button on the bottom of the right side of screen. Activity 3: Career Matchmaker Level of Education 1. Level of Education is used to indicate the level(s) or type(s) of education that you would like to achieve. The careers listed on the Career Suggestions page will be revised by the type of education you select: High school, Community College (including technical, vocational, apprenticeship training), and University. The revised list of career suggestions is limited to those careers that require the type of education that has been selected and that still match the student s interests. 2. Click on the Change link in the Type of Education box on the right side of the Career Suggestions screen. 3. Select all levels of education/training you are willing to consider (high school, community college, university, all types). Click on NEXT! to update the list of suggested careers. Matchmaker will tailor the Career Suggestions list to reflect the levels of education and training that you chose. 4. Results are returned on the Career Suggestions page. If you receive a high school education and are interested in community college or vocational training but are not interested in completing a university degree, select HIGH SCHOOL and COMMUNITY COLLEGE, then click NEXT. This will limit your suggestions to occupations with that type of education. 5. Click on the grey Save to my EDP button on the right side of the Career Suggestions screen to save your revised Career Matchmaker results in the EDP. 6. Review the updated list of career suggestions and the suggested career pathway(s) on the Career Suggestions page. a. Click on a career name to see information about the career. Click on Back to Matchmaker Suggestions to return to the Career Suggestions page. b. Click on a suggested career pathway name to identify the career options listed under it. Click on Return to Career Suggestions to view all 40 career suggestions. 7. You can also review the Top 10 Career Matchmaker Suggestions that have been saved to your EDP Career Portfolio in the Assessment Results >> Career Matchmaker section. a. Click on EDP at the top of the screen and login to your EDP. b. Click on the blue Assessment Results option under the Career Portfolio tab. c. The top 10 suggested careers and the suggested career pathways are listed under the Career Matchmaker tab. d. Click the See All Results link to view all 40 careers suggestions. Activity 4: Save Your Two Favorite Career Pathways in the EDP Career Portfolio 1. Click on EDP at the top of the screen. Login to your EDP if necessary. You are in the EDP Career Portfolio. 2. Click on the blue Career Preparation button under the Career Portfolio tab if the options under Career Preparation are not displayed. 3. Click on Career Pathways from the drop-down menu under Career Preparation. 4. You can select a first and second choice pathway. Using the down arrow, select the pathways you are interested in saving to your EDP. These may be the same as what has been recommended by Matchmaker. 5. Click on the Save button to save the pathways to Careers Pathways under Career Preparation in the EDP Career Portfolio. Using Technology in Career Exploration 35 Oakland Schools
