Kern County Water Agency Maintenance Worker/ Maintenance Mechanic I/II/Journeyman Mechanic $37,922-$60,616 Annually $1,459-$2,331 Biweekly The Kern County Water Agency (Agency) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Maintenance Worker/Maintenance Mechanic I/II/Journeyman Mechanic. This position will be responsible for performing maintenance and repair duties affecting the efficient operations of Agency water pumping, conveyance and purification facilities and groundwater recovery facilities. Maintenance Worker Qualifications Include: High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate. Valid California driver license. Demonstrated ability to perform confined space activities. Requisite reading, mathematical, written and oral language skills to perform the essential functions of the job. In addition, Maintenance Mechanic I/II/Journeyman Mechanic Qualifications Include: Two (2) years of eperience in industrial repair, maintenance, construction or installation for the I level; three (3) years of eperience in industrial repair, maintenance, construction or installation for the II level; and five (5) years of eperience in industrial repair, maintenance, construction or installation for the Journeyman level. Strong technical and mechanical knowledge. Demonstrated ability to repair computer-controlled motorized equipment, water pumps, hydraulic pumps and other automated control devices. Demonstrated ability to operate personal computer equipment and demonstrate proficiency using applications like Microsoft Outlook, Word and Ecel. Maintenance Mechanic, Journeyman Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities 8. 9. 10. 1 1 1 1 1 Inspect, repair and/or perform preventive maintenance/surveillance on Agency equipment (e.g., pumps, pipelines, valves, meters, groundwater recovery wells and other water facility appurtenances). Perform diagnostics and conduct routine maintenance, repairs and adjustments on mechanical, piping and automated equipment for Agency water pumping, conveyance, treatment, distribution and transmission facilities. Provide labor and oversight associated with the construction and repair of various Agency facilities (e.g., removing and installing mechanical equipment). Perform field inspections of Agency facilities and construction projects. Operate and maintain Agency groundwater recovery project well sites. Read and record various meter readings. Prepare and maintain records and reports of maintenance performed on the systems affecting Agency water pumping, conveyance, treatment and transmission/distribution systems and groundwater recovery project well sites. Operate and maintain a wide range of maintenance tools and equipment (e.g., hand tools, forklifts, arc and gas welders, hoists, pneumatic tools, etc.). Install and repair computer-controlled motorized equipment, pumps and control devices. Perform maintenance activities in a manner consistent with safe work practices as required by Cal/OSHA. Monitor and oversee marking and locating activities related to the Agency's underground buried facilities and respond to USAs. Operate and maintain the Agency's Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Review plans and specifications and make recommendations for various Agency maintenance and capital improvement projects. Maintain accurate inventory of spare parts and their locations. Perform janitorial duties, general housekeeping and grounds maintenance. Perform maintenance on vehicles and heavy equipment. Perform testing and installation of backflow prevention devices. Maintain work order files and operations and maintenance manuals. Maintain current library of technical literature on facility equipment and automated controls. Perform research and propose new equipment purchases, as needed. Maintain list of vendors frequently used for maintenance activities.
