The Monthly Rebel Banner The newsletter of Sons of Confederate Veterans Murfreesboro Camp #33 2012 SCV Camp of the Year 2010-2015 Sesquicentennial of The Cause for Southern Independence 1860-1865 Volume 16 No. 9 October 2017 THIS MONTH IN OLD DIXIELAND! Compatriots, Thanks to everyone that was able to help with the Sam Davis Home Heritage days event, it is important to have members that can give school demonstrations. We will have reenactors at the annual Ghost Tours, if you are interested in participating it would be appreciated. We had a great win at the Tennessee Historical Commission meeting in Athens Tennessee. They denied Memphis s petition for a waiver to move the Forrest monument. This is far from over, and the petition from MTSU to rename Forrest hall will be heard at some point. The next THC meeting will be on Friday February 16th in Nashville, more details will be in an upcoming newsletter. At our past Officer meeting we have decided to go to a bi-monthly newsletter, our dues do not cover the postage per member per year and it will make it easier as far as the work and time that is put into it. It takes several hours per month to write, print and process this newsletter. There will be a protest in Murfreesboro on October 28th, the best advice is do not be anywhere close to this! If you have a suggestion for a speaker, please contact 1st Lieutenant Commander James Forbes at: jforbesjr@comcast.net. Also, if you have an article that you would like to write for this newsletter, email it to: jasonboshers@charter.net I would like to challenge each of you to recruit one new member this next year, give an SCV membership to a family member for a gift. However you do it, bring someone into the SCV! Keep on Recruiting! Hooray for Dixie, Ole Confed Sam Davis Home Ghost Tours. The Sam Davis home will have it s annual Ghost tours on October 20-21 and 27-28, 7pm until 10pm each night. We will have reenactors doing a skirmish as part of the hayride, come out for a night of fun. Cannonsburg Heritage days. We will have a table set up at the annual Cannonsburg Village Heritage days on Saturday October 28th from 9 am until 4pm. Reenactors are welcomed to attend, bring all of your gear or stop by and help recruit a new member. Sam Davis a Hero Remembered! Sam Davis a Hero Remembered will be held from November 18-25th at the Sam Davis home on Smyrna. This week commemorates the dates from when Sam was captured until his execution. On Saturday November 18th there will be a day of special events with a historical talk, living history and a Ghost walk that tells the story of Sam Davis. Sunday November 19th, there will be a memorial service at the grave site of Sam Davis.

"To that land every drop of my blood, every fiber of my being, every pulsation of my heart, is consecrated forever. I was born of her womb; I was nurtured at her breast; and when my last hour shall come, I pray GOD that I may be pillowed upon her bosom and rocked to sleep within her tender and encircling arms."
