MARITIME ORGANIZATION E IMO COUNCIL 100th session Agenda item 15(g) C 100/15(g) 28 May 2008 Original: ENGLISH EXTERNAL RELATIONS (g) IMO Award for Exceptional Bravery at Sea Note by the Secretary-General Executive summary: Strategic direction: 11 High-level action: 11.1.1 Planned output: 11.1.1.5 Action to be taken: Paragraph 4 SUMMARY This document reports on the nomination of candidates for the 2008 Award for Exceptional Bravery at Sea; and on arrangements so far Related documents: C 98/D and Circular letters Nos.2837 and 2856 1 In accordance with the arrangements previously approved by the Council for the establishment of the IMO Award for Exceptional Bravery at Sea, Circular letters Nos.2837 and 2856 were issued (on 2 January and 13 March 2008, respectively), inviting nominations for the 2008 Award for actions performed during the period 2 March 2007 to 29 February 2008. Interested Governments and organizations were invited to submit their nominations by 15 April 2008. 2 The nominations received, by the deadline set, in response to that invitation are listed in the annex to this document. 3 In accordance with the Guidelines for the Award (see annex 1 to Circular letter No.2837), the nominations will, in the first instance, be scrutinized by an Assessment Panel of experts chaired by the Secretary-General, who will, thereafter, submit their recommendations to a Panel of Judges, chaired by the Council Chairman, who will then decide on the winner of the Award. For reasons of economy, this document is printed in a limited number. Delegates are kindly asked to bring their copies to meetings and not to request additional copies.
