Essential oils are revered for their healing benefits in many countries, and aromatherapy is required coursework in French medical schools. This workshop is a comprehensive introduction to the many applications of essential oils. Topics include: using, buying and storing oils; making a basic care kit; pharmacological and psychological properties of oils; understanding carrier oils, and everyday applications. Students will experience a wide variety of scents and learn the life-enhancing and healing qualities of essential oils. Instructor: Candice Chaffee. NEW! Advanced Aromatherapy: The Application of Essential Oils Wednesday, Nov. 2 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. $79, plus $15 supply fee payable to the instructor at class. This course is a more in-depth exploration of essential oils and their uses, and continues the aromatherapy study from the introductory course. You will learn about chemical constituents and their effects, as well as the basics for mixing therapeutic, skin/personal care, and home use products. The beginning concepts of hand and foot reflexology will be taught as a modality for enhancing the therapeutic properties of essential oils. This fun-filled workshop is experiential, and students will make and take home their own creative products. Instructor: Candice Chaffee. Also, feel free to bring your collection of essential oils. 6.5 contact hours will be awarded to occupational therapists, physical therapists, respiratory therapists, counselors and nurses for each of these workshops. We ll examine blending for home use (cleaning, sanitizing), personal care products, and custom perfumes. Participants will learn the categories and note classifications (top, middle and base) of essential oils and techniques for developing full-bodied formulas. Energy Anatomy and Vibrational Healing Friday, Oct. 7 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. $79 Vibrational Healing is the new "medicine." This course will explore the anatomy of energy bodies and currents, and provide tools for balancing the electromagnetic field. Emotional, mental, and spiritual causation of disease will be discussed. You will learn East Indian and Chinese methods for energetic balancing and re-patterning. The course is presented through a variety of mediums used in complementary healing. Topics include: chakra system, meridians, electromagnetic fields, healing with sound and color, flower essences, homeopathy, and applied kinesiology. It also will focus on the food industry and how it manipulates historic perspective of food and how our view has changed over the years. We will discuss ways to avoid processed foods and how to create your own processed foods. The focus will be on real food in the real world. We will discuss preparing everyday meals and how to streamline their preparation. Instructor: Lil Belka Part 3 Eat Slowly Monday, Nov. 7 5:30-8 p.m. $29 The third class will discuss ways to eat slowly in a fast world. It will focus on how to eat for body and mind and create a harmonious eating style. The focus will be on making eating into a happy event. We ll discuss ways to avoid the pit falls of eating poorly and create simple ways to eat happy. Instructor: Lil Belka
Instructors Candice Chaffee is a certified master herbalist, natural health professional and has studied and practiced holistic health for 25 years. She divides her time between teaching, public speaking and natural health consulting. Chaffee has been a guest lecturer at numerous conferences as well as the Medical College of Virginia, School of Pharmacy at Virginia Commonwealth University, Wesleyan University, KCC, Illinois Valley Community College, Parkland College, Illinois Central College and Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens. Lil Belka is a graduate of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. She is also a member of the United States Personal Chef Association. Her focus is to combine her two areas of training, in nutrition and the culinary arts. She will explain her philosophy of eating yourself to death or cooking yourself to wellness and how the choice is yours. Notes & Disclosures Limited class sizes, so register early to guarantee your seat. Some classes require a fee payable to the instructor at the time of class. Some classes have a registration deadline to order supplies. Criteria for judging successful completion of the seminar are attendance at the entire activity and submission of a completed evaluation tool.
