Nurse Leadership Institute The Sonesta Hotel Sponsored by: Georgia Hospital Association Georgia Organization of Nurse Leaders South Carolina Hospital Association South Carolina Organization of Nurse Leaders Purpose This year s Nurse Leadership Institute will focus on engaging nurses and staff, creating and sustaining a healthy work environment and a culture of quality patient and family centered safe care. Pam Beitlich, MSN, ARNP, RN with the Studer Group will be our keynote. She will focus on engaging nurses and strategies and tools for leading through change and transitions. With more than 20 years of experience in patient care, medical staff relations and nursing administration, Pam s comprehensive hospital background includes work as a former emergency department nurse and nursing administrator (in many different roles). The four concurrent sessions on Thursday will focus on Rapid Cycle Improvement / Defect Analysis with Roger Resar, MD; Rounding and Coaching with Karen Cook of The Studer Group; and Leading Change to Create a Healthy and Satisfying Work Environment with Carolyn L. Sanders, RN, PhD, NEA-BC, FACHE from the University of Colorado Hospital. The fourth concurrent will focus on rapid cycle improvements that three of the Georgia LEAPT hospitals have made in C-dif, Sepsis, and worker safety. Friday we will hear from Aimee Copeland and her father Andy. Aimee developed necrotizing fasciitis which led to amputations and the failure of her five major organs after an equipment malfunction on a homemade zipline. Aimee was taken to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctor s Hospital of Augusta and later to The Shepherd Center in Atlanta for rehabilitation. Karen Smith the CNO at Doctor s and Tammy King, CNO at The Shepherd Center will talk about a culture of nurse engagement and patient and family centered care. In addition to the excellent educational sessions, there will be time set aside to network and learn from your peers throughout Georgia and South Carolina. Objectives Upon completion of this conference, participants will be able to: Examine tools and strategies for leading through change and transitions; Analyze your hospital s culture for engaging nurses; Perform rapid cycle defect analysis principles; Demonstrate coaching to rounding; Describe shared leadership model to create a healthy and satisfying work environment. Who Should Attend This seminar is designed for nurse executives, chief nursing officers, directors of nursing, staff nurses, and first line managers in hospital nursing including nurse managers, nurse supervisors, assistant directors of nursing, clinical coordinators and clinical nurse specialists. Registration Information The cost for this conference is $245.00 per person from a GHA/SCHA member hospital, GONL/SCONL member, associate member or state agency and $490.00 per person from a non-gha/scha member hospital. This fee includes Wednesday reception, Thursday and Friday continental breakfast, Thursday lunch, breaks and all conference materials. Spouses and guests of GHA/SCHA members may attend the Wednesday evening reception and Thursday lunch for $55.00. The deadline for registration is May 15, 2014. All registrations postmarked after May 15, 2014 will be subject to a $25.00 late registration fee. Registration fees, less a $25.00 cancellation fee, are refundable if notice is received no less than five working days prior to the conference. Registrations may be mailed to GHA or faxed to (770) 249-4593. We accept checks, MasterCard, Visa, and American Express. Accommodations A block of guestrooms has been reserved at the Sonesta. The cost for these rooms is $187.00 for resort view rooms, $207.00 for courtyard/garden view rooms and $237.00 for ocean view rooms (plus tax, single or double occupancy. All room reservations should be made by May 12, 2014. GHA s room block always fills up fast so make your reservations early. Continuing Education Units 9.0 clock hours The attire for the entire conference is casual The Georgia Hospital Association is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Alabama Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's COA. Nurse Leadership Institute Poster Display of Innovative Projects Participants of the Nurse Leadership Institute are encouraged to participate in the Seventeenth Annual Poster Display of Innovative Programs and Projects. The Nurse Leadership Institute will be held at the Sonesta Hotel on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Entries consist of posters featuring creative programs and initiatives related to eliminating patient harm, leadership, staff engagement, workplace environment, staffing, recruitment, retention, cost saving initiatives, quality and patient safety. Entries must be submitted to Martha Harrell at GHA, 1675 Terrell Mill Road, Marietta, Georgia 30067 by May 15, 2014. Please use the attached submission form. In addition, please submit a brief description of the project with contact information for inclusion in the participant packets at the conference. Please limit this to one page. Posters will be displayed on tabletops and easels throughout the conference. Space is limited. Easel poster displays should be approximately 22" x 28".
