The office of Director, Students Welfare, Anand Agricultural University, was established with effect from 01/05/2004. This office is looking after various students activities/facilities including sports, cultural events, fellowships, recreation, health, adventure, counseling, placement etc. More over, dignitaries of different fields are invited to share their thoughts, experiences and views among staff and students. 6.1 Students Representative Council All the constituent colleges of the University have the Students Representative Council (SRC) formed as per University rules by the Principal/Dean of the respective colleges by selecting the sincere and leading students. The Council is formed with a view that the students can represent their problems through their representatives. The SRCs organize and monitor various extracurricular activities of students like planning forum, sports, debate and elocution, preparation of college magazine, cultural programmes, NSS etc. in collaboration and guidance from Directorate of Students Welfare. Apart from this, Alumni Associations in all the nine colleges have been formed. One day seminars were organized for strengthening the professional brotherhood and creating the atmosphere of oneness amongst the alumni. 6.2 Students Amenities Hostel Hostel environment plays an important role in the development of personality and character of the students. Good hostel facilities are provided to all the under-graduate and post-graduate students of the University as a residential University with an attached mess. In some of the hostels, self-managed mess is governed by the students while some are managed by contract system under the supervision of Rector/Asst. Rector/Asst. Warden. Library facility is also available for the use of students. The other facilities for day to Chapter - 6 Students Welfare day requirements like laundry, tailor, canteen, cycle store, provisional store, telephone, post office, bank, ATM etc. are also available in the University premises. The Rector and Asst. Rectors and Hostel Warden are appointed in each college for maintenance of student facilities and solving the residential problems of the students. Health Facilities Anand Agricultural University has made MOU with Charutar Arogya Mandal, Karamsad, for providing better health facility to students and staff from April 1, 2008. Special facility of Physician for various specialties like Dental, Skin, Eye, Gynaecology, Homeopathy and other disciplines are made available in campus. 6.3 Physical Education Programme (a) Sports Activities & Cultural Events Physical Education and Sports play vital role for development and maintenance of personality, physical fitness, health and body build up of the students. Along with the development of academic career of the students, this university also strives hard to take care of physical fitness and personality development of the students by involving them in physical education, sports, cultural events, adventurous activities etc. at college level under the direct guidance of Director of Students Welfare. The students of the university are also trained for the development of skills and excellence in various sports activities. Inter-Collegiate competitions for various games like Chess, Table-tennis, Badminton, Kabbadi, Volleyball, Basketball, Kho-kho, Cricket, Cultural activities, Essay competition, Debate, Elocution etc. are arranged at various colleges. The selected students from Inter-collegiate competitions are nominated for Inter-University participation. On this occasion Hon. Vice Chancellor Dr. N. C. Patel presided over the function and inaugurated sports events. All the 5 Polytechnics took part in Volleyball, Kho-Kho, Chess & Table Tennis. Sheth M. C. College of Polytechnic won in Volleyball, Kho-Kho and Chess tournaments while Polytechnic in Agriculture, Vaso won in Table Tennis and became runner up in Chess. Kho-kho Tournament Inter-collegiate and Polytechnic Athletics Inter-collegiate and Inter Polytechnic Athletics was held during March 15-16, 2017. Dr. N.C. Patel, Hon. Vice Chancellor and Dr. Dhaval Patel, Hon. Collector, Anand remained present in the Volleyball Tournament Inaugural function. All the athletes showed amazing performance in Athletics event. Dr. N.C. Gujarat State Inter Agricultural University Volleyball, Basketball and Badminton Tournament (2016-17) Gujarat State Inter Agricultural University Volleyball, Basketball and Badminton Tournament 2016-17 was organized at Anand Agricultural University. All four Universities took part in the tournament. Dr. N.C. Patel, Hon. Vice Chancellor remained present in the inaugural function. Cultural Procession 17 th All India Inter Agricultural Universities Sports and Games Meet 17 th All India Inter Agricultural Universities Sports and Games meet 2016-17 was organized Mime by CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar (Haryana). Total 32 students of AAU participated in Table Tennis, Badminton, Volleyball and Basketball Tournaments. All the teams performed well. AGRIUNISPORTS 2016-17 AAU Team (b) National Cadet Corps (NCC) It is a voluntary organization helping India in nation-building. The camps organized play a vital role in national integration through interaction among different caste, creed and culture. With a view to give a boost to the youth in the positive direction, NCC has been included in the course curriculum. The NCC unit of BACA is attached with 4 Gujarat Battalion, NCC, Vallabh Vidyanagar. The unit consists of two platoons of 100 cadets. This year 4 Gujarat Battalion (Boys) organized Combined Annual Training Camps at Khambhat. 55 cadets attended CATC camp. During CATC camp the cadets participated in different activities like weapon training, obstacle, map reading, March Past essay writing, Volleyball competition and tug-of-war. 10 cadets participated in Army attachment camp from 14-28/07/2016 at Ahmedabad. 5 cadets participated in Inter Directorate Football competition from 08-19/09/2016 at Ahmedabad. 7 cadets participated in Basic Leadership camp from 15-24/10/2016 at Thamna. 2 cadets participated in Advance Leadership camp from 16/11/2016 to 02/12/2016 at Bharatpur. (Rajasthan) 2 cadets participated in All India National Integration camp from 04-15/01/2017 at Dhimapurr, (Nagaland) 41 cadets passed B certificate examination with B Annual Report 2016-17 204

and C Grade in the year 2016-17. 18 cadets passed C certificate examination in t2016-17. Cadets with Dean, Agriculture and Physical Instructor CATC camp Cadets in Lecture 6.4 National Service Scheme (NSS) The Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Ministry of Human Resources Development, New Delhi, have started the National Service Scheme in 1969-70. The basic purpose of this scheme is to develop responsibility through social services and realization of work and discipline. National Service Scheme was functioning in all the colleges & Polytechnics of Anand Agricultural University. During the year under report volunteers registered for regular activity and for special camp are as under. Special Camp at Sankhej village Special Camp at Koliyari village Director, Students Welfare addressing at Special Camp South Korean Youth Delegation visited AAU Thirty five students of South Korean Youth Delegation visited Anand Agricultural University on Sept. 24, 2016 under bilateral youth exchange programme. The interaction was conducted at College of Food Processing Technology and Bio Energy. 50 NSS student volunteers and 5 NSS Programme Officers of Anand Agricultural University participated Special Camp at Asodar Village and interacted with South Korean Youth Delegation. Shri Kamalkumar Kar, Regional Director, NSS, (Gujarat) remained present with his team. Dr. S.H. Other Activities of Directorate of Students Welfare (1) Yoga Camp A Four day Yoga Camp was organized prior to International Day of Yoga during June 16-19, 2016 at Anand Agricultural University. University Officers, staff members, students and family members participated enthusiastically and performed yoga with the help of yoga demonstrator. Yoga Camp (2) International Day of Yoga Anand Agricultural University celebrated 2 nd International Day of Yoga on June 21, 2016 at University Bhavan. Around 400 people including University Officers, staff members, students and family members remained present. Yoga was performed as per yoga protocol and instructions by Yoga trainers. 45 minute programme was arranged as per the protocol suggested by Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India. The state level Republic day was celebrated in Anand district during January 1-25, 2017. As a part of that celebration, Anand Agricultural University celebrated Yoga Day on January 20, 2017. University Officers, staff, students, NSS volunteers, family members of the staff remained present in this programme. Hon. Vice Chancellor Dr. N.C. Patel specially remained present. Dr. S. H. Day of Yoga (3) A Lecture-cum-Workshop on Yog Dwara Jivanshaili One day workshop on Yog Dwara Jivanshaili was organized on June 20, 2016 by Directorate of Students Welfare office in the association with Prajapati Brahmakumari Ishvariya Vidhyalay, Adhyaatmik Gyaan ane Sahaj Rajyog Shikshan Kendra, Vallabh Vidhyanagar. The programmme was handled by well known Yogacharya Dushyantbhai Modi. Around, 70 faculties and staff members took part in the workshop. A Lecture-cum-workshop on Yog Dwara Jivanshaili (4) Eye Check-up & Homeopathic Consultation Camp An Eye Check up camp was organized on June 8, 2016 by Directorate of Students Welfare office in association with Sankara Eye Hospital, Anand. 70 people including officers, staff members and students took part in this Eye Screening Camp. Some problems like Glass, Retina, Cornea, Glaucoma etc. were also detected. One day Eye Check-up & Homeopathic Consultation Camp was organized on August 5, 2016 at Health Center, AAU, Anand. Dr. S.H. (6) Cultural Programme during visit of Accreditation Peer Review Team (ICAR) A Cultural Prograamme was organized on Sept. 14, 2016 during Peer Review Team (ICAR) visit at Anand Agricultural University. Padma Shri Dr. K.L. Chaddha, Chairman, PRT (ICAR) and Honorable Vice Chancellor, Dr. N. C. Patel remained present. Folk Dance, Mime, Classical Dance were performed by the students. Cultural Programme during visit of Peer Review Team (7) Basic Rock Climbing Camp Basic Rock Climbing Camp for girl students of Anand Agricultural University was organized during January 17-26, 2017 at Swami Vivekananda Mountaineering Institute, Mount Abu by the Director of Students Welfare, AAU, Anand. Total, 64 girls from different colleges of Anand Agricultural University participated in the Basic Rock Climbing Camp. Basic Rock Climbing Camp for boys of Anand Agricultural University was organized during 27/11/2017 to 06/12/2016 at Pandit Dindayal Parvatarohan Taalim Kendra, Junagadh by the Director of Students Welfare, AAU, Anand. Total, 70 boys from different colleges of Anand Agricultural University participated in the Basic Rock Climbing Camp. During the camp, theory lectures were delivered on Principles & Methods of Climbing and Rappelling, Trekking & Camp manner, Belays: types, methods & calls and Rack formation. (8) 68 th Republic Day celebration Anand Agricultural University celebrated 68 th Republic Day on January 26, 2017 at University Bhavan. All University Officers, staffs, students of different faculties and family members of the staff remained present to grace this yearly celebration. Dr. N. C. Patel, Hon. Vice Chancellor hoisted the flag and gave speech about 68 th Republic Day of the Nation & University development. (9) Samvad Workshop for Women Anand Agricultural University and Archana Charitable Trust, Anand organized Samvad workshop on February 17, 2017 for the girl students, women employees and women residing at AAU campus. The 68 th Republic Day Celebration workshop was on the issue of Government schemes related to women, education, health, employment, career, security and women empowerment. (10) Celebration of International Women s Day Anand Agricultural University celebrated International Women s Day on March 8, 2017. Women s rally was organized from University Bhavan to Veterinary College in the morning. Hon. Vice Chancellor Dr. N.C. Patel remained present and flagged off the rally. Dr. S.H. Akbari, Director, Students Welfare and Dr. D.R. Kathiriya, Director, Information Technology also remained present on the Samvad Workshop for Women occasion. Blood Group and Hemoglobin check up camp was held for women of Mahila Mandal and girls of AAU by Health Center, AAU, Anand. Self Defence training programme for girl students was also organized from February 28, 2017 to March 4, 2017. Various competitions for girl students were also organized during March 17-18, 2017. 6.5 Students Magazine Students magazine is published by every college of this university with the aim to bring out the hidden talent and expression of the students. Teachers, staff members and post-graduate students of the college provide the crucial link for the overall development of the students through the various articles, poems, drama and interesting agricultural information useful to farmers and scientific community. The Director of Students Welfare provides the Financial Assistance. The detailed report of sports and adventure activities in addition to educational activities is included in the Magazine. 6.6 Educational Tour Educational tour is considered as a part of academic syllabus of the degree courses of this university. The duration of educational tour is of 2-3 weeks, which comprises the visits of reputed institutes of Gujarat and out side Gujarat. The basic purpose of this tour is to gain knowledge and information regarding their study by personal visit to the related institutes and research centers. From the educational tour the students of this university gain important and interesting information regarding the developments in agriculture, veterinary and industrial growth by visiting the research centers of Agricultural Universities and other places. 6.7 Student Discipline The quality of discipline is being inculcated in students through Sports, N.C.C. and N.S.S. etc, so as to maintain cordial atmosphere among students, teachers and staff members of this university.
