HIGH SCHOOL FINANCIAL AID & SCHOLARSHIPS for the 2018-2019 school year The St. Mary s Tuition Assistance Program Thanks to the generosity of St. Mary s Parish and donors to our Fleur-de-Lis Fund, St. Mary s High School Is able to offer tuition assistance to families with demonstrated need. Financial Aid Forms are available on-line beginning in November. To help determine eligibility for tuition assistance, St. Mary s uses a third party service provider, FACTS Grant and Aid for Financial Assistance. The deadline for completing the FACTS Grant and Aid Financial Assistance application is December 31, 2017. The application can be completed online at www.factstuitionaid.com. ACADEMIC AND LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIPS Redemptorist Scholars Due Date: December 15, 2017 St. Mary s High School names Redemptorist Scholars annually to incoming freshmen who are not members of St. Mary s Parish. Qualification for the Redemptorist Scholarship is based on academic performance, letters of recommendation, transcripts, character, HSPT scores and personal interview. Applications are available on the St. Mary s website www.stmarysadmissions.org. $1000.00 annually. Neumann Scholars Due Date: December 15, 2017 St. Mary s High School names Neumann Scholars annually to incoming freshmen who are in-parish. Qualification for the Neumann Scholarship is based on academic performance, letters of recommendation, transcripts, character, HSPT scores and personal interview. Applications are available on the St. Mary s website www.stmarysadmissions.org. $1000.00 annually. Saints Scholars Due Date: December 15, 2017 St. Mary s High School names Saints Scholars annually to incoming freshmen based on leadership. Qualification is based on submission of a 500 word essay or 2 minute video explaining leadership accomplishments in the community or extra-curricular involvement. All candidates will be interviewed. To maintain this award, award recipient and mentor must annually submit accomplishments for the year and goals for the upcoming school year on the webiste www.stmarysadmissions.org. Gossman Memorial High School Scholarship Designed to assist those Brother Knights holding membership in councils within the jurisdiction of Maryland in paying tuition for their sons and daughters at accredited Catholic High Schools; three grants of $1,500.00 per year, for up to four years, will be awarded. Awards will be made on the basis of academic excellence, personal qualifications, and financial need. The children of deceased members are also eligible, provided the member was in good standing at the time of death Application period is from October 1, 2017 to February 1, 2018. All applications must be received by the Scholarship Committee no later than February 1, 2018. The William J. O Brien Jr., Memorial Catholic High School Scholarship Three grants of $1,500.00 per year for up to four years will be awarded. This program is open to any Catholic student who is a resident of the State of Maryland to include children and grandchildren of a member of a Knights of Columbus council within the jurisdiction of Maryland. Applicants must have been officially accepted at or must be students at accredited Catholic High Schools. Applications will be judged on academic excellence, personal qualifications, and financial need. Application period is from October 1, 2017 to February 1, 2018. All applications must be received by the Scholarship Committee no later than February 1, 2018. Hezzy Howard Scholarship Applicant must be an eighth grader intending to attend St. Mary s High School of Annapolis, Maryland. A one-time amount of $500 is to be awarded to an individual who intends to play lacrosse on the Men s or Women s team during their freshman year (and beyond). The awardee will demonstrate a solid academic record, need for tuition assistance as approved through the St. Mary s Business Office, and interest in improving their surrounding community through volunteer involvement. A successful applicant will possess similar characteristics and interests depicted in the attached biographical sketch of John D. (Hezzy) Howard, whose life is memorialized by this scholarship fund. SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE TO ST. MARY S MIDDLE SCHOOL GRADUATES *The following scholarships are awarded at graduation. They are not application based. The recipients are chosen based on merit by the administrative team at St. Mary s Elementary School for those continuing at St. Mary s High School. The McGeady Family Scholarship The McGeady Family Scholarship, an endowed fund, awards one St. Mary s Middle School student a four-year, $1,000 annual scholarship to the high school. The recipient is selected by the donors or their designated representative from three finalists selected by the high school and middle school principals and his/her appointed representatives. Decision will be based on the student s overall scholastic excellence, including test scores, grades, classroom effort and conduct, demonstrated service to the parish/community, and exemplary character. Applicants must maintain a 3.5 GPA during their matriculation at St. Mary s High School. The Father Max Pauli C.S.s.R Creative Writing Award The Father Max Pauli C.S.s.R Creative Writing Award is a one time $1,000 scholarship award for a St. Mary s Middle School Student who is going on to St. Mary s High School. The award is determined by committee based on the student s overall excellence in creative writing, including grades, classroom effort and conduct, and exemplary character. A permanent part of the St. Mary s School Endowment, this award honors the years of service of Fr. Max Pauli, a Redemptorist priest and published author who served as prefect of both St. Mary s Elementary School and High School until his death in 1990. The School Sisters of Notre Dame Mathematics Scholarship Award The School Sisters of Notre Dame Mathematics Scholarship Award is a one time $1,000 scholarship award for a female St. Mary s Middle School student who is going on to St. Mary s High School. The award is determined by committee based on the student s overall excellence in mathematics, including test scores, grades, classroom effort and conduct, and exemplary character. A permanent part of the St. Mary s School Endowment, this award honors the great contribution and legacy of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, whose charism and teaching tradition has graced St. Mary s School for almost 140 years. Middle School grades, HSPT results and standardized test results from Grades 6,7,8 that are on or above grade level. Effort and attitude are important for success in this challenging academic environment. Consistent study habits and attendance are vital. Involvement in the community through activities, outreach, and/or sports shows a well rounded student. All need based financial assistance or scholarships will not be awarded until:. Saints Scholarship Application Class of 2022 The Saints Scholars are students that utilize their unique gifts and talents to enhance their community. The recipients of this annual award are the leaders among their peers. Saints Scholars should demonstrate impeccable character, academic focus, teamwork, faith and dedication. This includes but is not limited to: athletics, performing and visual arts and faith based leadership. This scholarship is $1000 and renewed annually for a total of 4 years at St. Mary s High School. The student must maintain leadership status in the chosen area while attending St. Mary s High School to continue eligibility. A letter from a mentor, coach or leader directly involved with area of leadership, detailing accomplishments and recommendation is required. A 500 word essay (minimum requirement) OR 3 minute video of student s accomplishments and leadership ability should accompany your application. All candidates will be interviewed in January, 2018 by appointment.
