Dr. J. DAVID LOVE FIELD GEOLOGY FELLOWSHIP INTENT: To promote the practice of field geology. AREA OF INTEREST: This Fellowship honors the memory of Dave Love, a dedicated field geologist with few equals. His work has been paramount in the understanding of Wyoming geology. As such the Fellowship is reserved for assistance to field geology projects in Wyoming and the Rocky Mountain region. QUALIFIED APPLICANTS: To be considered for this fellowship, an applicant must be currently enrolled in a graduate program (M.S. or Ph.D.) at a private or state college or university and be doing a field geology project. A candidate may receive the award only once. If a candidate applied, but did not receive the award previously they are encouraged to reapply with an update on their research. SOURCE OF FUNDS: In 1987 the Wyoming Geological Association established an endowment fund, the J. David Love Wyoming Field Geology Fellowship Fund, to honor J. David Love upon his retirement from the United States Geological Survey. Interest from this fund is used for the grants. STEVE CHAMPLIN SCHOLARSHIP For Geology Students QUALIFIED APPLICANTS: To be considered for this scholarship, an applicant must be a sophomore, junior, or senior student for the 2013-2014 academic year and enrolled as a geoscience major at a college or university in the Rocky Mountain region. The candidate should have a 2.9 or better overall GPA and demonstrate need for financial assistance. SOURCE OF FUNDS: In August of 1985 the Wyoming Geological Association established an endowment fund, the Steve C. Champlin Scholarship Fund, to honor the memory and spirit of Steve Champlin, a highly respected exploration geologist in the Rocky Mountains (See AAPG Bulletin, 1985, v.. 69, p. 2150). Interest from this fund is used for the scholarship. Scholarships of $500 to $1,000 have been awarded annually since 1991. The candidate should have at least one letter of recommendation from the department head or any professor knowledgeable of the candidate s past academic performance. A second letter of recommendation from either an academic or industry geoscientist is optional. Do not send more than two letters of recommendation. The candidate will have a recent copy of his/her transcript sent to the WGA Scholarship Committee. Letters of recommendation and transcripts should be received by WGA before March 15, 2013. SELECTION COMMITTEE: A committee composed of the Wyoming Geological Association Scholarship Chairman and at least two other WGA members will screen applications and select the recipient of the scholarship. SELECTION DATE: The committee will make its selection by May 10, 2013, and will notify all candidates of the results by letter or Email. RECEIVING THE AWARD: The WGA will send a check for the recipient to the Geological Science Department Head prior to commencement of the 2013-2014 academic year (late August, 2013). Upon the department s verification of registration and attendance of the recipient, the Department Head may present the Champlin Scholarship to the recipient. If the primary recipient fails to register or attend the Fall 2013 semester/quarter the Department Head should notify the WGA Scholarship Chairman and return the check promptly. An alternate recipient will be chosen.

STEVE CHAMPLIN SCHOLARSHIP For Geology Students (2013-2014 academic year) The following form should be filled out and submitted as an application for a scholarship from the Steve Champlin Scholarship fund, established in 1985 and thereafter maintained by the Wyoming Geological Association in Casper, Wyoming. The scholarship is presented in memory of Steve C. Champlin to perpetuate his continual concern for and support of young geologists. Candidate requirements are as follows: 1) Sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in geoscience during the 2013-2014 academic year at a college or university in the Rocky Mountain region, 2) Grade point average of 2.90 or better (4.0 maximum scale), 3) Need for financial assistance. The Scholarship Committee of the Wyoming Geological Association will determine the recipient and one alternate. The primary criteria considered for selection of the recipient will be financial need, scholastic ability and supportive references.
