Helpful internship information for students who are abroad this semester: You should have received a couple emails from the Career Center with all of this information but to recap some of what those emails stated read below. Though you are not on-campus to participate in these events, there are still actions you can take while abroad to prepare for the summer internship search. Following are a few tips for September: Review the list of employers attending upcoming fairs, networking events or on-campus recruiting through your EagleLink account. You can reach out to any employers you are interested in and apply for positions while overseas, even through the on campus recruiting process. Explain to the employer that you are overseas and won t be able to attend the fair or event, but that you are very interested in their organization. Also, ensure you mention when you plan to return back to the U.S. from your abroad experience. NOTE: Students who are studying abroad are welcome to apply for positions linked to on-campus interviews. If you are selected for an on-campus interview, please send an email to student.recruiting@bc.edu notifying us of the name of the employer and your scheduled interview time. Use LinkedIn to find BC alumni (or others in your network) that are living and working in your host country. Try to set up informational interviews and/or shadowing opportunities to get an international perspective on your field(s) of interest. Check out our website for tips about writing an effective LinkedIn profile. Additionally, you can connect with the 13,000+ BC Alum through the Boston College Career Community. IMPORTANT Reminders for Your Internship Search: If you are contacting employers for any reason this semester -- to apply for positions, network, inquire about opportunities, etc. -- be sure to clearly indicate in your correspondence that you are currently abroad and when you will return to the U.S. (an approximate date is adequate).
If you are selected for an on-campus interview while abroad, it is critical that you contact carole.flynn@bc.edu and put Skype in the email subject line, so she can help facilitate the scheduling of your virtual interview.
