Accessing E-prescribing: Patient Advisor Training Manual 2012 Patient Advisor Training Manual 1) When launching into the e-prescribing system, you will be presented with the following Patient Advisor introduction screen. Here you will be able to default which boxes will be checked on the Patient Advisor screen when prescribing a medication that has patient educational materials available. These preferences can be changed later through the Additional Options section. To save the settings, select save. If you choose to cancel, you will be prompted to set the preferences upon logging in again. 2) Note: Staff will not see this screen when logging into the application. When creating a prescription on behalf of a provider, staff will use the settings that the provider has set. These settings might be different for each provider in the practice, so the patient advisor box may contain different information for each prescription a staff member creates. 1
3) Next, pull up a patient and prescribe any drug. Once you complete the prescription you will be returned to the patient summary screen and if there is patient education available for the medication, the following Patient Advisor overlay screen will appear in the top right hand corner of the screen: Note: You will see the patient advisor screen for 80 percent of the most highly prescribed drugs. Educational resources are available for close to 5,000 drugs in the systems. 4) The Patient Advisor screen will allow you to print coupons, wellness program information, and patient education for all the conditions the prescribed drug is indicated for. First, select the option you wish to view or print by selecting the boxes. Simply click Submit to proceed with printing the selected materials. If you select preview, you will be able to view the material prior to printing the materials out for the patient. NOTE: Every coupon is regulated by law. There are some states which do not allow certain coupons. On top of that, patients must qualify for a coupon. If the patient qualifies for a coupon and they are also in the state that allows the dissemination of the coupon, then the provider will see it. Moreover, there is a limited availability of coupons. When all coupons for the programs have been disseminated, then that will be the end of that coupon program. 5) If you do not wish to print anything, simply click the Cancel link at the bottom right of the pop-up. Canceling the information will cause the patient advisor screen to disappear from the current screen. 6) If you choose to print, the next screen will be the printing confirmation screen. Here, the user will be able to select their printer, the number of copies to print and a condensed version of the print out (as seen below). 2
7) Click the print button within the window to print the document. 8) If you select to preview the material (as well as print), you will be given a PDF view of the material once you select submit. 9) To print the material, select the printer icon in the top left hand corner of the PDF window. If for whatever reason you do not wish to print out the material, you can close the window by selecting close. 3
10) If you choose to renew more than 2 medications that have Patient Education available, you will be presented with following screen. 11) Here, the user will be able to scroll through each patient advisor section in the top right hand corner and select the appropriate action for each. 12) Clicking on the submit button will then perform the selected action for each. Patient Advisor User Preferences: 1) If you wish to change your preferences as to which boxes are checked on the Patient Advisor screen, you can do so under Additional Options. 2) Note: Only providers will have the ability to change these preferences. 4
3) Here you will find a new option called Patient Advisor Preferences, shown below: 4) Selecting the link will then open a small window where the user will be able to default their settings on whether they wish to be prompted of the features. 5
Note: You can always save the patient education and email it to the patient if needed until this is offered.
