The Cyclones began the season with four-straight dual victories over Virginia Tech, Kent State, Boston University and Old Dominion, before falling at the hands of Iowa, 22-13, for their first loss of the season. ISU responded to the loss with an eighth place finish at the National Duals with wins over Northern Illinois and American. Thy Cyclones will be looking for their first Big 12 dual victory of the season after going winless in their first four attempts. ISU has fallen to Oklahoma State twice this season after meeting them at National Duals, while falling to Oklahoma and Missouri once. Iowa State features a talented lineup with four nationally-ranked wrestlers at their respective weights. Leading the way for ISU is Jon Reader at 174-pounds. Reader, who is ranked No. 1 nationally, sports a perfect 31-0 record on the season. Other ranked wrestlers include No. 15 Chris Drouin (141), No. 7 Andrew Sorenson (165) and No. 14 Jerome Ward (197). Iowa State is coached by Kevin Jackson, who is in his second season as head coach of the Cyclones. In his first year as head coach, Jackson led ISU to a third place finish at the NCAA Championships. Husker History vs. Iowa State The Huskers and Cyclones have faced off over 100 times in their history, with Iowa State holding an advantage in the all-time series at 77-13-2. In their last meeting, the Cyclones defeated NU, 34-7, on Feb. 21, 2010 in Ames, Iowa. Iowa State has won the past four duals against the Huskers, with NU s last win coming on Feb. 19, 2006 when Nebraska won, 22-21, over the No. 7 Cyclones. Three Seniors Set to Finish Careers on High Notes This year s senior class features three wrestlers who have combined to win 190 career matches and qualify for four NCAA tournaments. Mike Koehnlein, Andy Johnson and Jordan Burroughs will look to end their careers on a high note as they begin preparations for the Big 12 and NCAA tournaments. Jordan Burroughs, Sicklerville, N.J., 165 Burroughs 120 career victories places him No. 6 on the all-time wins and winning percentage list at NU. With 61 career victories in dual competition, Burroughs also ranks at No. 6 on the career dual wins list. Accounting for 16 victories as a freshman, Burroughs took the nation by storm as a sophomore winning 34 matches and finishing third at the NCAA Championships at 149-pounds. Burroughs followed his third place finish as a sophomore with possibly the most dominant season in school history his junior year by going 35-0 in route to becoming the school s first undefeated national champion. The two-time All-American was the Big 12 Champion in both 2008 and 2009, while being named the Outstanding Wrestler of the 2008 Big 12 Championships as a sophomore. After having his season cut short by injury as a senior, Burroughs was granted a medical-redshirt and came back even stronger this season moving up a weight class to 165. The New Jersey-native owns a perfect 28-0 record and has been dominant in dual competition, recording 123 takedowns and not giving up a single one. 2010-11 Nebraska Wrestling Head Coach Mark Manning With 100 years of history, Nebraska wrestling is one of the most storied programs in the collegiate wrestling ranks. Head Coach Mark Manning has taken the Huskers to new heights in his tenure and has established himself as one of the top wrestling coaches in the nation. The NU record book is a testament to Manning s accomplishments in Lincoln. In his 10 years at the helm, he has coached 33 of Nebraska s 88 All-Americans. He has led the Huskers to five top-eight finishes at the NCAA Championships, compared to just eight for the 14 NU coaches before him. He is the winningest coach in Husker history with a dual-winning percentage of.704 and a record of 135-56-3 at NU. He won back-to-back Big 12 Coachof-the-Year awards (2008 and 2009) after guiding Nebraska to a share of the conference crown in 2009 and a runner-up finish in 2008. NU went on to finish fourth at the NCAA Championships both seasons with nine Huskers earning All-America honors and Jordan Burroughs capturing the 157-pound national title with a perfect 35-0 record. In addition to their success on the mat, Husker wrestlers under Manning have earned 35 academic All-Big 12 selections (3 1/2 awards per year), including current student-athletes Tucker Lane and Josh Ihnen. The pair, in addition to 2010 seniors Craig Brester and Stephen Dwyer, were all named to the 2010 NWCA All-Academic Team, as Nebraska turned in the third highest team grade-point average (3.2824). Manning s beliefs and values in developing studentathletes is evident right outside his office, where former Husker All-Americans Bryan Snyder, Jason Powell, Craig Brester and Brandon Browne are members of the NU coaching staff. During their time under Manning, Snyder and Brester were each named the Nebraska Male Student-Athlete of the Year.
