Intellectual Contributions Research & Patents 2014: Developed oral device for prevention of ventilator acquired pneumonia, patent approved in Europe, awaiting patent approval in US. 2013: McLain, N. E., Scarless Wound Healing. After 2 years of literature research, in collaboration with a facial plastic surgeon, we devised a formula that has been shown in rat labs to significantly reduce surgical incision scarring. We have utilized rodent labs for three of the studies. This year, we have reformulated the medication to make it shelf stable and are in the process of final rodent testing at present. 2013: McLain, N. E., A novel approach to keloid scar revision. Keloid scarring can be emotionally and physically painful. Unfortunately, removal of a keloid scar does not resolve these problems as nearly 90% of the time, they recur, oftentimes as larger scarred areas. In collaboration with a facial plastic surgeon, we devised a novel approach to eliminating keloid scarring using a proprietary mixture injected into the keloid to prepare it for removal. We received IRB approval for the initial trial and completed it in July 2013. Follow up on injected subjects is very promising. Research continues on preventing reoccurrence.
