The Fine Art Gallery is more than just a renovation of the previous facility. It now encompasses more than double the space of the original location. Previously, the TCC Art Gallery was housed in a classroom in the Extended Studies Building. Patrons will now notice vast improvements to the gallery such as upgraded lighting, a "public-friendly" entrance, and clear signage. Our new and improved gallery will allow us not only to better showcase our outstanding student art work, but will also bring a thought-provoking and diverse array of art exhibits to campus for the enjoyment and edification of students, faculty, staff and the community, said Julie Baroody, Assistant Professor of Visual Art and Gallery Director. The Fine Art Gallery will house rotating exhibits. The gallery joins the neighboring Ralph Hurst Gallery and Turner Auditorium in the College s newly renamed Fine and Performing Arts Center. The gallery is a clear demonstration of TCC s commitment to the arts. Monday s grand opening also served as the kickoff for the Tallahassee Democrat s 100-year anniversary celebration. To commemorate the Tallahassee Democrat s anniversary, the Fine Art Gallery is the first location of For All Time: A Pictorial Celebration of America, an exhibit produced by Parade Magazine. The exhibit will be on display at TCC from noon to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday through March 3. Page 3 GALLERY, Continued from page 1 For All Time is one of several traveling Parade Photo Exhibits loaned to Parade newspaper partners. This exhibit, as are all Parade exhibits, is a compilation of photos submitted nationwide and showcases 100 color and black and white photos featuring the themes of Family, Children, Love of Country, and Love of Nature just to name a few. The photos, submitted by amateur photographers, display a remarkable technical proficiency and artistic sensibility. Pictures include the Abraham Lincoln Memorial, the Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial, and the Vietnam Memorial. Other images include reposeful landscapes and quick moving glimpses of comets and butterflies. Other photographs focus on people, their younger contemporaries, and the bridges built between them. Other events celebrating the Tallahassee Democrat's 100 year anniversary include an open house at the Democrat on March 6, a donation of a sculpture to the city of Tallahassee, and plays at Florida State University, Young Actors Theatre and Tallahassee Little Theatre. There will also be events co-sponsored by LeMoyne Art Gallery, Tallahassee Winds, and AMC Theatres. Mike Pate, left, Publisher, Tallahassee Democrat, and TCC President Bill Law during Monday s opening of the Fine Art Gallery at TCC. The event also served as the kickoff of the 100-year anniversary for the Tallahassee Democrat. AWARD, Continued from page 1 Team Gadsden s goals include increasing the rate of students who graduate high school and move on to college, increasing the number of scholarships available for Gadsden County graduates wishing to attend TCC, establishing strong workforce programs that provide opportunities for employment beyond service/retail wages for unemployed/underemployed adults, and taking a proactive role in assisting other community organizations, agencies, and groups dedicated to improving the lives of Gadsden County citizens. "It is great to know that educational institutions are committing themselves to closing the educational achievement gap, said Alliance Spokesperson Shaun King. Tallahassee Community College is to be commended for their dedication to minority communities. The Alliance honors a Florida student, teacher, school administrator, community leader and community organization every month for their contributions and commitment to education. Team Gadsden was the FAAEA s Community College Program recipient for 2004. TCC student leads recycling efforts Thanks to the effort of student Phillip Brown, faculty, staff, and students at Tallahassee Community College can help make the campus even more beautiful while, at the same time, saving natural resources, energy, and dwindling landfill space. Through Brown s efforts, a number of recycling bins have now been placed in various locations throughout the campus. Participants have the option to place any glass, plastic, aluminum cans, and bottles in separate bins.

Page 6 Eagle men upset O-W, teams prepare for finale The Tallahassee Community College basketball teams are preparing for Saturday s season finale at Chipola College. The end of the season did not come, however, without some excitement. On Monday evening, TCC hosted Okaloosa-Walton College on Sophomore Night at the Eagledome and both teams responded with inspiring victories. The Eagles upset the O-W men, ranked ninth nationally, 62-53. Leading 32-22 at the break, the Eagles weathered every Raider run in the second half and kept O-W leading scorer, Clarence Sanders, in check. Sanders struggled all night, hitting only 5-of-22 from the floor. He finished with 14 points. Cory Farmer and Archie Miaway each scored 13 points to lead the Eagles. In the women s game, TCC pulled away late and held on for a 64-62 win over the Lady Raiders. Shannon Stewart gave the Lady Eagles the lead for good with a three-pointer with 2:46 left in the game. A quartet of players scored in double-figures for TCC led by Sharon Wiles 17. Sophia Small added 13 while Stewart scored 12 and Danielle Vaughn, 10. The Lady Eagles won their second consecutive game on Wednesday, defeating North Florida Community College, 73-52, in their final home game of the season. Small led TCC with 19 points. Saturday s action begins at 6:30 p.m. with the women s game. The men s game follows at 8:30 p.m. and can be heard locally on WTAL 1450 AM. BASEBALL, SOFTBALL MEDIA GUIDES NOW AVAILABLE TCC s 2005 Baseball and Softball Media Guides are now available. The 2005 Baseball Media Guide highlights the Eagles 2004 Panhandle Conference Championship and features the four returning players on the cover. In addition, the guide celebrates the accomplishments of head coach Mike McLeod who won his 500th game earlier this season. The Softball Media Guide features the Eagles five sophomore players on the 2005 cover, designed by TCC student Shelby Duncan. Both guides are available in PDF format online at TCCeagles.com. Copies are also available for $5 through the TCC Athletic Department (201-8588). TCC Eagle Sophomores: left to right, Head Coach Eddie Barnes, Lavell Payne, Chris Brown, and Terron Diggs.
