Job Description Position: Department: Place of work: Responsible to: Functional relationships with: Purpose of the position: Fellow Gastroenterology Gastroenterology Waitemata District Health Board North Shore Hospital and Waitakere Hospital Clinical Director Medicine, Gastroenterology & Medicine. Consultants, Medical and gastroenterology registrars. This is a fulltime position at senior registrar level aimed at consolidating and obtaining new experience in endoscopy and Gastroenterology, at least at 6 th year postgraduate level. Previous endoscopy experience is needed. This is a fixed term position of 6 months duration with the possibility of an extension for a further 6 months. The position will work primarily in Gastroenterology. Section 1: Responsibilities Area Clinical Duties & Work Schedule Responsibilities Responsible for the clinical assessment, investigation, diagnosis and treatment of patients under the Gastroenterology specia. To facilitate the safe and efficient management of patients in the care of the Gastroenterology service, under the supervision of the Consultant. To undertake outpatient clinics weekly in North Shore Hospital providing clinical management of outpatients with Gastroenterology disorders. Clinics will be conducted during ordinary hours under the supervision of the consultant. In the event of a consultation being requested by another service, arrange for the patient to be seen either by the and/or the Gastroenterologist. To receive general practice enquiries regarding admissions or management issues involving Gastroenterology patients. To undertake endoscopy s at both locations and expected to fill in the vacant ones to share responsibility with the gastro registrar in caring for the gastro I/P. To participate in research projects within the department of Gastroenterology Any other duties that may be required in the interest of the department, such as organising clinics and lunchtime presentations.
Section 2: Training and Education Nature Protected Time Details The Fellow will attend weekly (unless attendance is required for an emergency) the: NSH Gastroenterology journal club meeting Tuesday 1715-1800 gastro dept. NSH Medical Grand Round Tuesday 1230 1330 Conference Room 1. Fortnightly GI Pathology Meeting. Fortnightly GI Radiology meeting The Fellow will: Participate in clinical audit within the Gastroenterology Unit. Assist when required with junior medical staff teaching programmes. Present case summaries and topic reviews on a regular basis. Attend other meetings/sessions as directed by the senior medical staff. Section 3: Work timetable/ Roster Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday W/E /EUS Research/referral Referrals Admin AM GI meeting / clinic G/R / PH and manometry UGI cancer meeting, GI path meeting, PM Research/ referral / Capsule endoscopy Clinic/ /ERCP Referrals/ I/P reviews GIB patients review JC Hours of Work Ordinary hours of work: Monday to Friday (8.0 hours per day) 0800 1630 hours Section 4: Performance appraisal Performance will be assessed by a nominated Gastroenterologist, based at NSH, using the criteria above and will be discussed at formal meetings at the beginning of the attachment and again at 3 months

Section 5: Hours and Salary Average Working Hours Commitments Basic Hours 40 Rostered Additional Hours 0 All other unrostered hours 0 Total Hours Per Week 40 Salary The Salary for this Fellowship is the equivalent of a Category D Urban run on the RMO MECA and likewise will be dependent on candidates years of experience: Salary will be between $75,717 for a year 1 to $113,172 for a year 10
