ABOUT THE MSD FELLOWSHIP FOR GLOBAL HEALTH <Title & content layout>title The MSD Fellowship for Global Health is a threemonth, field-based corporate pro bono program designed to leverage the skills and talents of our employees worldwide. Goals: Strengthens the capacity and reach of nonprofit NGOs with technical and human capital support Provides rich professional-development experiences for our employees Applies key learning across our broader organization 2
PROFILE OF AN NGO PARTNER NGO partners must have proven expertise and success in implementing programs that improve access to health. Eligible NGO partner s mission must align with one of the following priorities: Health Access: Improving healthcare quality and increasing access to care for underserved populations in the areas of cancer, diabetes, heart disease, hepatitis C, HIV / AIDS, maternal health and animal health. Health System: Strengthening the capacity of local and or national health systems in areas such as supply chain, organizational design and development, marketing and business planning. Research and Development: Projects that support the advancement of research and development capabilities, particularly in the area of neglected and tropical diseases will be considered. However, projects CANNOT focus on the research and/or development of specific compounds or biological agents for the treatment or prevention of disease. 3

FELLOWS RESPONSIBILITIES RTC Fellows: Commit to serve full-time on assignment for three months Prepare logistically for in-field assignment Provide ongoing feedback about project statement of work Utilize professional expertise to share knowledge and develop efficiencies for NGO Upon return, develop an impact plan and share insights about global healthcare issues Ongoing, spur changes that benefit both the global community and the company Serve as ambassadors for the Fellowship 5
MSD S RESPONSIBILITIES MSD s Office of Corporate Responsibility along with its vendors: Manage NGO partner relationship Manage NGO partner and RTC Fellow selection processes Facilitate pre-departure preparation for Fellows and NGO partners Arrange logistical needs for Fellows to/from field assignment Manage reintegration support for Fellows and conduct program impact evaluation Oversee external communications about the program 6
NGO PARTNER RESPONSIBILITIES Transparency Provide access to key people and information within the organization necessary for the assignment to be a success Logistics Arrange housing and ground transportation for Fellows Provide secure work space, email address, mobile phone, and other resources for Fellows use Arrange logistics for field visits Partnership Assign a project manager to manage and consult with Fellows during field assignment. This manager should be proficient in written and spoken English Expenses NGO partners will be provided with a grant to cover Fellowship related expenses (e.g. in-country travel, housing, mobile phones, etc.). NGO partners will manage and report on expenses. 7

STRATEGIC PLANNING Hindustan Latex Family Planning Promotion Trust (HLFPPT) Noida, India Scope of Work: Analyzed various maternal, child health and family planning schemes and devised a framework for strengthening the service portfolio of Merrygold Health Network. Developed a strategic business case for creating a first of its kind online health portal for providing health services. 9
IMPROVING SUPPLY CHAIN IN WEST AFRICA Africa Resource Centre Dakar, Senegal Scope of Work: Increased capacity of ARC West Africa s core team in supply chain matters, including private sector engagement Developed a West Africa model/approach to provide expert input across multiple countries Trained key supply chain actors in supply chain systems and LMIS (Logistics Management Information Systems) 10
<Title DEVELOPING & content CLINICAL layout>title TRIALS CAPACITY IN AFRICA BIO Ventures for Global Health Maputo, Mozambique Scope of Work: Prepared a Needs Assessment to gain a global understanding of the center s capabilities and its staff s experience Prepared and presented seminars on clinical trials management/implementation topics Developed a multi-day clinical trials workshop with scientists from around the region 11

HOW TO SUBMIT A PROJECT PROPOSAL If you are interested in submitting a project proposal for the MSD Fellowship for Global Health, please visit the company s Grant Application Website. Organizations may submit up to THREE project proposals, and are encouraged to submit at least two project proposals for consideration.
