Career Development & Opportunities Career Development & Opportunities The CDO welcomes the opportunity to work with Student Organizations to cosponsor events and programs relating to: Careers and Law Practice Areas Job Search Preparation and Assistance Professionalism and Student Development Networking Opportunities To request co-sponsorship of a program/event for fall or spring semester, please complete our CDO co-sponsorship request form (available at our office and on our website) with the full details of your program/event. The deadline to submit the form for a fall semester program is October 15, 2016. We request forms be submitted a minimum of two weeks prior to the event for consideration. Educational Technology - There are three major ways to email participants of your org: - TWEN sites - Can store documents from year to year, can email all students who join the TWEN site, cannot easily email non-law students. Contact Jessica Hogan at jhogan@law.du.edu. - DU Listserv Service (https://listserv.du.edu/mailman/listinfo) - Can only do email but can easily email outside (non @law.du.edu). - Outlook Distribution Groups: - Can host files and email but cannot easily email outside email addresses, somewhat difficult to self-enroll. - To update your Student Organization s website contact Mo Bellifa mbellifa@law.du.edu, located in Suite 265. - For assistance with your student organization e-mail accounts or Outlook Distribution Groups contact Tim Mitchell at tmitchell@law.du.edu.

Communications a.k.a. LawComm STUDENT ORG LOGOS All student organizations must adhere to logo standards set by the University of Denver Office of Communications. http://www.du.edu/marcomm/brandguidelines/index.html Official logos for each student org are held by LawComm. To request a new logo or if you have questions about your existing logo, please contact Assistant Director of Communications Chris Wangelin at cwangelin@law.du.edu. Please note that LawComm cannot create custom student org logos. LOGO COMPLIANCE: We take brand identity very seriously at DU. Any materials that do not comply will need to be confiscated. If you have any old banners or letterhead that have old versions of the DU logo on them (square DU icon), please discard these items. If you have anything that does not have the Sturm name preceding College of Law, please discard it. A comprehensive guide to logo standards can be found online at on the Office of Marketing and Communications site as well. Approved logo

Communications a.k.a. LawComm Student Org Promotional Items LawComm can assist you in producing student org marketing and display items: Table Covers: $125. Full size (6 table), black cloth, full color imprint, accommodates any logo or graphic. Production time: 2 weeks Banners: $80. White vinyl, full-color imprint, accommodates any logo or graphic. Available items include t-shirts, hoodies, hats, etc Please note that LawComm cannot create unique designs for your org (outside of your existing logo). However, they can do design layout, manage orders, negotiate prices, provide graphic files and coordination production and delivery. Reminders for 2016 From SBA -To receive additional funding for an event, the funding request must be submitted no later than 2 weeks prior to the event. Go to SBA Website for funding request forms and policies. Email to SBATreasurer@law.du.edu. -Each student organization event will need to have a signup sheet. Sign up sheet will need to include: -Names of all attendees -Food ordered and how much it cost -Keep copy for your records. Submit a copy to SBA Office (Room 443) -Each student organization should have a position on their board for an evening student -All Student Organizations shall hold elections for the positions of (1) President, and (2) Treasurer ( Student Leaders ), during the election cycle, which shall run from the first Monday in February for a period of two weeks. -The organization must then submit a list of current leadership to the Student Affairs Office within one week of new appointments/elections;

Planning Events - Reserve your space using the room reservation procedures (slide #8) - If you would like to serve alcohol you must get approval first (slide #9) - Lauri Mlinar, Director of Events at lmlinar@law.du.edu, will help you order food, get a physical set up, and meet your A/V needs if necessary Dean s Suite, 215 - If you just need a table in the Forum/Student Street area you must also contact Lauri Mlinar to reserve a table Dean s Suite, 215 - Risk Management & University Counsel: - Please see Chris Newman cnewman@law.du.edu in Student Affairs, Suite 235D, for anything that may require Risk Management or University Counsel. Example: Setting up an event off campus, any event involving physical activity, having a band or photo booth, volunteering off campus, etc. If you re not sure, come see me! - NOTE: Students cannot sign contracts. If you sign a contract you will be personally liable! If you need a contract approved, see Chris Newman in 235.

Room Reservations -To reserve a room go to https://25live.collegenet.com/du/. *Mac users: only compatible with Safari* - Click Sign In at the top right of the screen and login using your Student ID number, 87xxxxxxx, and your PioneerWeb password. - Simply fill in the form step by step. - You are required to follow the Classroom Food Policy - If you have questions about reserving rooms please contact Mike Latimer at mlatimer@law.du.edu, 303.871.6104, or see him in Suite 215.

Alcohol Policy We have a new alcohol policy with a few new requirements (found in the Handbook). - THE BASICS: -You must submit an Alcohol Approval Petition to Assistant Dean Boynton no less than 2 weeks prior to the event date (online form). -Student Org cannot pay for alcohol; if you need to have alcohol at your event, please work with a department or outside organization to fund the alcohol. -Lauri Mlinar has to receive the funding in advance of the event. -You must use drink tickets at your event unless otherwise approved. -Events where alcohol is present must be fully catered. -If the event will be 50+ people, complete an event form with Campus Safety. -Event must include a guest list and/or be in a closed area.

Advertising Your Event - Use the SCOL Events Management System to advertise your events and to place announcements. You may include as many events and announcements as you wish in the Daily Events & Announcements. -Submit an Announcement -Submit an Event - Post to Admitted Students Facebook pages contact Student Affairs to post. - SCOL Posting Policy: -Two 8 ½ x 11 flyers may be posted in any area (i.e. two flyers per classroom). - Flyers must be approved by Student Affairs Office and may only be hung on bulletin boards. DO NOT hang on walls, windows, doors, bathroom stalls or mirrors, or in the elevators. Hang flyers ONLY with thumb tacks. DO NOT hang with tape, staples, sticky putty, or nails. - You may check-out easels from the Dean s Suite contact Mike Latimer or Lauri Mlinar

Financial Information - Tax exempt information can be found on the Student Affairs website. - Reimbursements: - Off-campus events: - Approval from the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs required ahead of time to spend ANY student funds off campus. -You can do this by sending an e-mail to Dean Boynton. -Student Affairs will not approve reimbursement for alcohol off campus. - All events: -DU will not reimburse tax as we are tax exempt (only exception is prepared food). -All original, itemized receipts are required for reimbursement! -Provide as much information as possible on reimbursement form (also known as the check request form).

Financial Information - SCOL Student Travel Policy: Any student travel may be funded for no more than two-thirds of their expenses from DU funds and not to exceed $500 for each student or $1500 for an organization annually. Permission from the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, Jessica Boynton, is required before requesting travel funds. -All expense forms can be found on Student Org Forms website: - Travel Expense Report - Per Diem Travel Request - Travel Advance - W-9 necessary for paying speakers - Student Organization Check Request - Student Organization Deposit -Questions about the forms? Expense Policies - To see all financial policies please click here. - THE BASICS (get the SBA cheat sheet here): - The Following are examples of expenses not approved: - Activity, food, and/or alcohol costs off campus are prohibited if not previously approved by Student Affairs. You will not be reimbursed. - Food & beverage for Organization Officer Meetings and/or Student Organization Offices. - Gifts for students, faculty, staff, or vendors (this includes gift cards). - The Following are examples of approved expenses: - Food for general student organization meetings & speakers. - Materials for events promoting student life on campus. - Student Org signage using University approved logos.

- Ordering supplies: -To order paper for a printer/copier go to the DU Purchasing website. -For all other supplies contact Chris Newman. Miscellaneous Things YOU Need to Know -If you are not/have not been receiving Student Leader e-mails it is because you are not on the Student Leader list serve. Contact Chris Newman to add others. - Guest parking permits: Mike Latimer Suite 215. Guests must park in designated areas. We can not do anything about parking tickets. - Student Org Office door code 2486*, Room 439 - Student Organization Lockers are free! Contact Amanda Williams (awilliams@law.du.edu)

Summary -On-campus events: (1) Reserve a room; (2) Check with Events in 215 for food/beverage, physical set-up, or equipment for tabling. -Alcohol: Start by submitting the alcohol approval form and reviewing the Alcohol Policy. -Off-campus events: Start with Chris Newman in Student Affairs (235) -Funding: Start with SBA for Special Event Requests to receive funding (or your original funding source if SBA does not fund your organization); ask for co-sponsorships with other orgs or SCOL departments; no student organization funds can pay for alcohol must be paid by outside donations or DU departments.
