Design&make flag and of the chapter (Mar/2008- Apr/2008) BJTU student Chapter is a newly founded club, after a discussion the chapter officers all agreed to design and make a chapter flag and an official seal of the chapter for possible future use. The flag is blue with yellow logo and letters, where the blue colour represents high technologies while the yellow colour means light. And it stands for our sincere desire to build better lives for everyone with optical technologies. There is a gear with SPIE written in the center, which comes from the Beijing Jiaotong University badge, in the logo of our flag and official seal. Attend Progress In Electromagnetics Research Symposium (PIERS) (Mar/29/2008) The advisor of our chapter, Prof. Chongqing Wu, is the session chair of Fiber Optics, Optical Sensors, and All-optical Signal Processing in Progress In Electromagnetics Research Symposium (PIERS) which is an IEEE conference. Five members of our chapter had attended 2009 PIERS hold by BJTU in Beijing. 8. BJTU SPIE&OSA Student Club Serial Seminars In order to have better understandings of others research fields and enhence the communications and connections between members, a series of seminars was organized for members and non-members. These seminars were usually composed of talks by our Ph.D. candidates on their research fields and table games after the technical part. These seminars could help the new members and students with choosing their fields and future developments of their optical careers. Note: These seminars were co-organized with BJTU OSA student chapter. Ms. Zhao was giving a talk on SOA. 3 rd Seminar by BJTU SPIE and OSA club. Page 3 of 6

Awards the former chapter officers (May/15/2009) SPIE BJTU Chapter was established last year, and the former chapter officers had sacrificed a lot of time and energy to build it home for all members. Hence, an awarding ceremony was hold and a cerificate of service was awarded by the chapter advisor Prof. Wu to each officer for their hard work and contributions to the chapter.
