This event is presented by the Franklin County Sheriff's Office at no cost. The goal of Street Smart is to provide current and up-to-date narcotics information on trends, terminology, paraphernalia, and physiological effects to those individuals who deal with today's youth. Two current undercover detectives, who possess over thirty-five years of combined narcotics experience, will conduct the training. Included in the training will be actual examples of current designer street drugs such as XYC, AMT, 5-Meo-DMT, LSD, GHB, 1-4 Butanediol, Ketamine and Khat. Officers will be escorting the examples throughout the audience for hands on effect. Current drug paraphernalia examples are available to depict the ease in camouflaging drug use from adults. A strong emphasis is placed on the physiological effects on the drugs and indicators to look for. Socalled "traditional" drugs such as marijuana, cocaine, crack, heroin and methamphetamine are also covered extensively as teenagers still heavily abuse these drugs. A portion of the program also deals with prescription medications, including DXM, due to easy accessibility in most households. ANNUAL NEW PARISHIONER & VOLUNTEER DINNER: Saturday, February 21, 2009.
