Scholarship applications are now available for the 2017-2018 Academic Year. Scholarships will be awarded in August 2017. The Architectural Ironworkers Industry Advancement Trust Fund, a non-profit organization funded by contributions from companies that employ members of Local #63, awards college scholarships to children of Local #63 members and children of employees at companies that employ Local #63 workers. If you are a member of Local #63, your children may be eligible for a scholarship. If you work at a company that employs Local #63 members, your children may be eligible for a scholarship. Who is eligible to apply? All children of active Local #63 members and children of employees at companies that employ Local #63 members are eligible to apply. Applicants must also be U.S. citizens and attend (or will attend) an accredited college or university on a full-time basis. A.I.I. considers full-time basis to be two semesters in one year with no less than 12 credit hours per semester. How many scholarships will be awarded? The A.I.I. Board of Trustees will determine the number of scholarships awarded and the amounts of the scholarships on an annual basis. For the 2017-2018 academic year, A.I.I. has decided to award a scholarship of $2,000.00 to each of the top five (5) applicants. How many scholarships can I receive? If all information is submitted on time, each recipient can receive a maximum of 4 scholarships during his/her full-time undergraduate studies. Scholarships are awarded only for undergraduate studies. Are there any special considerations if I received a scholarship for $2,000.00 for the 2016-2017 academic year? Yes. You must check the appropriate box on the form and provide the requested information. You do not have to complete the entire application. In August 2017, you will receive your $2,000.00 scholarship check provided you have maintained a cumulative GPA of C or better and a full course load of two semesters per year each with no less than 12 credit hours per semester. Architectural Ironworkers Industry Advancement Trust Fund c/o Iron League of Chicago 500 N. Michigan Ave. #600 Chicago, IL 60611 T: 773-442-8330 F: 773-442-0968 office@ironleagueofchicago.org

Are there any special considerations if I received a scholarship LESS THAN $2,000.00 for the 2016-2017 academic year? Yes. Beginning in 2015, we changed the scholarship award process. Under the old process, A.I.I. awarded multiple small scholarships to multiple students. Under the new (current) process, A.I.I. awards five (5) $2,000.00 scholarships. If you received a scholarship for less than $2,000.00 for the 2016-2017 year, you have two options: 1. Receive the same scholarship amount that you previously received. If you choose this option, you must check the appropriate box on the form and provide the requested information. You do not have to complete the entire application. In August 2017, you will receive your scholarship check in the same amount that was paid to you in 2016 provided you have maintained a cumulative GPA of C or better and a full course load of two semesters per year each with no less than 12 credit hours per semester. 2. Enter the application pool for the opportunity to receive a $2,000.00 scholarship. If you choose this option, you must provide the requested information. Your application will be reviewed and ranked against all applicants. In August 2017, you will be informed if you did or did not receive a scholarship. If you are awarded one of the five (5) scholarships that are available, you will receive a $2,000.00 scholarship check. Is each applicant awarded a scholarship? Not necessarily, although this may happen depending upon the number of scholarships to be awarded. Applications will be scored according to the criteria outlined on the following pages. How do students apply? All candidates must submit a written application. An application is enclosed as part of this document. Alternatively, the application is now available for download from the Iron League of Chicago website (www.ironleagueofchicago.org). Personal interviews with the Scholarship Committee may be required. When are applications due? Applications will be accepted at the Iron League of Chicago office through July 31, 2017. Applications may be sent by postal mail, email or fax. All required information must be postmarked or time-stamped by midnight on July 31, 2017 in order for applicants to be considered. You will receive an email when we receive your application. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. How are applicants notified of their scholarship application status? All applicants will be notified of their status by email before August 31, 2017. If a student is awarded a scholarship, how and when does he/she receive the funds? Checks payable to the student will be distributed by August 31, 2017. It is the student s responsibility to apply the funds towards his/her educational expenses. Architectural Ironworkers Industry Advancement Trust Fund c/o Iron League of Chicago 500 N. Michigan Ave. #600 Chicago, IL 60611 T: 773-442-8330 F: 773-442-0968 office@ironleagueofchicago.org

How are the applications reviewed? All information that can identify a specific applicant (name, address, email address, etc.) will be removed during the review process. A.I.I. works with an outside provider who will compile all statistical information into a spreadsheet. The outside provider will score each application according to the scoring criteria described on the next page. The completed spreadsheet will be distributed to the Scholarship Committee for review. The Scholarship Committee will review the recommendations and award scholarships based on the scores. How are applications scored? Each application is scored on the following criteria and has a maximum of 40 points. School Activity Work Activity ACT/SAT Score GPA 12.5% weighting 5 points if the student provides a signed letter from a coach or club sponsor verifying the student s activity at the school 0 points if there is no letter or an unsigned letter 12.5% weighting 5 points if the student provides a signed letter from an employer verifying the student s employment 0 points if there is no letter or an unsigned letter 12.5% weighting A maximum of 5 points will be awarded based on the applicant s test score.
