!"# NEWSLETTER Paula Oxford, left, pictured with Sherry Dickerson at the 2011 Alumnae Christmas Open House. A LETTER FROM OUR ALUMNAE PRESIDENT Dear Sisters, At the start of 2011, I stepped into the Alumnae President position and still feel like I am getting a grip on all the reports and deadlines. So please bear with me as we continue to work together in sisterhood through events and meetings that provide the warmth, stimulating conversation, and often tears of laughter for lasting bonds of friendship. My goal for 2012 is to get us back to a 5 star chapter! The beginning of the school year is always busy and exciting as recruitment week brings another group of young ladies in as new members and hopes for great leadership opportunities begin. Alumnae were there with support and food to keep the collegians going through one of the largest groups of recruitment. The AGD Homecoming luncheon on October 29 th hosted by the collegians was well attended and a great time to reconnect and renew friendships. Game night and pizza were the theme for Alpha Gam Always hosted at the home of member, Karol Blaylock. It was a great time remembering who we are and why we chose Alpha Gamma Delta. We told stories and laughed while making rose Christmas ornaments for the collegians. A philanthropy donation was made to the St. Luke s food pantry as a token of our thanks and community service to the church for the use of their facility for noon meetings. We were excited to welcome and initiate, Annette Albrecht, as our newest member during the November 19 th initiation ceremony along with our 54 new collegians. December brings a close to the semester and our annual Christmas Open House with a wonderful spread of finger foods and delicious sweets. Sisterhood was extended as we gave the girls the rose ornaments made with love and laughter. The girls had their annual ornament exchange and then played the fun and funny traditional squirrel toss! Completing the afternoon we proudly rededicated our December graduates presenting them with their AGD hanky and hearing their future plans.!"# Epsilon Upsilon Alumnae Chapter!"# NEWSLETTER Volume XVII, Issue 1, March 2012 ALUMNAE EDITOR Kari Lewis Box T-1083 Stephenville, TX 76401 kllewis@tarleton.edu COLLEGIATE PUBLICATIONS COORDINATOR Kaitlyn Cummings!"# Epsilon Upsilon Mailing Address: Box T-1572, Tarleton Station Stephenville, TX 76402 SAVE THE DATE! put on by the collegians raised over $7,600. The baskets were fabulous and creative as always which contributed to the total exceeding their previous years. This is a major anticipated event on campus as indicated by the large response. The next night Alumnae gathered for Alpha Gam Always at a local health food store, Barefoot Market. A fun and informative night for Happy Hour Smoothies and a brief presentation on organic and healthy food eating choices was presented. A raw food lunch is offered for purchase as an alternative to our normal regimen towards healthy choices. This was a great way to emphasize our need to take care of ourselves by the choices we make to hopefully keep future health concerns and diseases from forming. Plans for April IRD are underway to remind us of the lifelong sisterhood circle that provides relationships, friendships, inspirations, support and opportunities for community service. I have experienced firsthand the love and sister support in the past months. My family has experienced life-threatening health issues and now the passing of my 89-year-old mother. Through it all my sisters have been there for me. I want you to know how much I appreciate you and have felt your love and prayers. Loyally, Paula Oxford!"# New Logo! COLLEGIATE MEMBER HIGHLIGHTS Phired Up Workshop On March 26, 2011, about a third of our chapter traveled to Dallas for a recruitment workshop held in conjunction with other Alpha Gams from Texas & Oklahoma. The workshop was presented by Phired Up, an education firm that provides recruitment services to membership organizations. The speaker truly inspired those who attended and they enjoyed meeting Alpha Gams from other chapters. Our collegiate members returned to campus with useful tools and a lot of excitement for Recruitment 2011. Phired Up Workshop at UT Dallas Alpha Gams give back! Fill the Field Fill the Field, SGA s community service project seeking donations for Erath county charities, was held March 31. The event brought in all types of donations, from clothing and furniture, to canned goods. AGD participated in full force to help our community. Tarleton Round-UP Leadership & Service Awards Banquet At the Leadership & Service Awards Banquet, held on April 23, the sisters of Alpha Gamma Delta were presented with the honored title of Organization of the Year! A few of our Individual members were recognized as well. Ms. Emily Lazenby was named the Greek Women of the Year, Ms. Rachael Arroyo was awarded the John Tarleton Spirit Award and Ms. Brooke King was awarded the Sophomore Participation Award. We are incredibly proud of our collegiate chapter and our members who were recognized! Members of our chapter participated in the L.E.A.D.S. Organization s community service project, Tarleton Round-UP, on April 2. Round-UP is a great opportunity for students to interact with people in the Stephenville community. Volunteers are asked to mow lawns, rake leaves, paint houses, and almost everything in between. The event is held annually and it helps to strengthen the bonds between the University s students and the community. 4
