Categories Entry Deadline: 8 September 2016 Enter today at: lloydslistawards-meis.com The Lloyd s List Middle East & Indian Subcontinent Awards recognise excellence across the range of sectors within the shipping world Here are the list of categories: Port Operator Award This award recognises the terminal or port authority that has maintained the highest standards of operational efficiency and customer service throughout the last 12 months. This award is open to individual port or terminal operators as well as larger group operations. Our judges will be looking nominations that reference and demonstrate quality not scale. Consideration will be given to tangible examples of innovation, improved efficiency, profitability or successful investment in port operations. Judges will also be looking for evidence of a sustained commitment to customer service, cost and operational efficiency as well as an outstanding safety and environmental record. Last year s winner was Gulftainer, which demonstrated an ability to win business with operations in different locations and under difficult market circumstances. Ship Operator Award This award recognizes exceptional performance in ship operations and is open to all shipowners, operators and managers across all sectors. Judges will be looking for solid examples of achievement from the entrants that demonstrate excellence in the operation of its ship(s) over the past year and put the winner well beyond best practice. Consideration will be given, but is not limited to, examples of: business development, safety, efficiency, reliability and of course profitability. As a guide to what the judges are looking for in this category, the judges awarded United Arab Chemical Carriers the award last year because the company showed a capability to successfully increase fleet and performance in a challenging chemical carrier market. Safety Award Life Environmentally Optimized R This award will go to a company which can demonstrate an exceptional commitment to improving safety standards in the industry over the last 12 months. The award is open to companies across all sectors which can demonstrate robust and effective improvements to their operations at sea or ashore. Judges will be looking for more than a statement of safety aspirations, but for real examples of safety innovation, investment in safety training and proven reductions to accident rates, but they will also consider examples that demonstrate long-term consistency and best in class performance. Last year s winner Vadinar il terminal won the award for its nomination that explained how it had been working hard to raise safety awareness and in doing so demonstrate a willingness to change working environments and build a safety culture. Training Award This award goes to a company for outstanding commitment in training its employees ashore or at sea or a company or institution that can demonstrate a contribution towards improving training standards across the maritime industry as a whole. Judges will consider examples of investment in new facilities and courses, innovative training solutions and a sustained and effective approach to developing quality staff in the maritime sector. The winner will need to demonstrate why they stand out above all others this year and have set the benchmark for the rest of the industry to aim for. Abu Dhabi Ports won the training award last year for its investment in a bespoke in-house pilot simulation training, which helped develop VTS competence, and then offering the facilities and course module to other ports and terminals to improve their own safety regime. It honours the institution, company or individual that has done the most to reduce the pollution of our environment from maritime sources. The contribution, should have a regional element, and could include, but is not restricted to, ship design and operation, port operations, companywide environmental policy, or successful policy effort on the part of a public official with maritime responsibility. Importantly the judges will be looking for tangible metrics by which success over the last year can be measured. Last year s winner Kuwait Oil Tanker Company won the award for demonstrating, through a number of key initiatives and projects over the preceding year, a clear focus on environmental excellence. Maritime Lawyer of the Year This award celebrates the very best in the legal profession and will go to the individual lawyer or law firm that has offered the best service to the maritime industry over the past 12 months. Judges will be looking for exemplary expertise and commitment to the shipping industry as well as looking for clear examples of innovation where lawyers have played a crucial role in notable cases, restructuring, dispute resolution or finance. Last year s winner was the Dubai office of International law firm Ince & Co which won the award on the back of an entry demonstrating a wide portfolio of services and commitments over the year. Seafarer of the Year This award recognises the skill, bravery and professionalism that the industry s seafarers demonstrate on a daily basis. We are looking for nominations of crew of all ranks who have shown leadership, courage and vision while at sea over the past 12 months. Judges will welcome nominations from individuals or shipping companies putting forward any member of the crew, from ratings to masters. The 2015 winner of this award was Phlippino seafarer Zaude Paulo Bandivas who had been abandoned on a vessel in Dubai for two and a half years. He maintained a positive attitude throughout his ordeal and after returning home managed to regain is qualifications and return to sea. Innovation Award This award recognises an innovative project or technology which has demonstrated or has verified potential to move shipping forward. Our panel will welcome entries that showcase new ideas, ship designs, equipment and services that have shown to be, or hold the promise of, offering shipping a distinct application for business improvement. Whether in safety, environment or operational efficiency, the award is made to the technology solution that the judges believe demonstrates the innovation needed to move shipping forward. The winner of the 2015 innovation award was a robot from Dubai based GAC. GAC EnvironHull s Hullwiper automated underwater hull cleaning system was recognised by the judges as a clear example of the successful application of technology. Among the elements that the judges will consider as contributing to top performance: exceptional customer service, safety, environmental protection, cost management, and service innovations that support the businesses of owners and charterers. The entry should be from a company based in the Middle East or Indian sub-continent region s or one with a demonstrable presence in the region. Offshore and Energy Award This award recognizes the shipowner or operator that has demonstrated excellence in providing services to the offshore energy industry, via operation of offshore service and supply vessels. Judges will be looking for an exemplary record of achievement in terms of business development, safety, efficiency, reliability and of course profitability. This award is open to shipowners or operators based in the Middle East and the Indian Subcontinent or those that have substantial operations serving projects in the region. Last year s winner, UAE-based Topaz, won the award for its nomination which demonstrated continued good operations in a dismal offshore market Shipyard of the Year This award recognizes a ship yard and/or shipbuilder in Asia that has consistently met the needs of its customers in these times of tight capacity. Entries will be judged based on the ability of the yard to offer cost effective and quality services while keeping a keen eye on safety. For shipbuilders, criteria include the on time delivery of quality vessels that cater to buyer requirements and showcase innovative designs while adhering to high environmental standards. The Lloyd s List Intelligence Big Data Award This award recognises the significant potential that big data has to transform shipping, from timely insights drawn from real-time monitoring and forecasting of events to improved management of performance and risk. We are seeking entries from companies that can demonstrate a tangible example of innovation drawn from big data and applied to the benefit of shipping. The criteria for this award is necessarily wide, but we will be looking for solid projects that can prove measurable results in areas such as: performance monitoring and optimisation; condition-based and predictive maintenance; optimisation across systems and system overview of operations. This award will be judged by a special panel of industry experts drawn from Lloyd s List Intelligence. The Topaz Energy and Marine Logistics Award This award goes to the shipping or logistics company that has worked with shippers not only to provide ocean transportation but a total logistics package with a full end to end supply management across both the sea and land sectors within Middle East and Indian Subcontinent. Judges are looking for someone brimming with fresh ideas, new priorities and genuine potential. From shipowners to bankers entrants from all sectors are encouraged to enter. Individual entries are welcome, but companies across the industry are encouraged to nominate their brightest and best. Entries will be limited to one nomination per company. Lifetime Achievement Award This award recognises an individual that has, over the course of his or her career, contributed to the wellbeing of the industry in a profound way. The Lloyd s List editorial panel welcomes submissions on behalf of candidates for this award, however nominations will also be put forward by the Lloyd s List editorial team and the panel of judges. Newsmaker of the Year A shortlist of candidates who have significantly influenced a major aspect of the news agenda will be selected by the senior editorial team of Lloyd s List. All entries will be assessed by a senior team of Lloyd s List editorial staff before a list of finalists is presented to an independent panel of judges. This is done to ensure that entry criteria and quality standards are met. The criteria for adjudicating the awards differ from award to award, however our judging panel will take into consideration criteria that includes, but is not limited to: business success, quality, growth, exemplary initiative, financial results, share price, investment, integrity, service, safety, environmental record, commercial acumen, technical or operational performance, employment, innovation and good corporate citizenship. The judges deliberations and selections, to be decided democratically, are at their own discretion and the panel s decisions are final. Q9. How will I know if my submission has been successful? A. Following the judging all companies and individuals will be notified by email. Finalists will be announced on the awards website, lloydslist.com and in the Lloyd s List e-news bulletin. You will then be sent a finalist pack giving ideas and tips on how to publicise your success. Q10. What do I get if I win? A. The Lloyd s List Middle East and Indian Subcontinent Awards are highly regarded within the shipping industry, winning an award marks you out as a leader in your field.
