The Arc of Monmouth Recreation Department offers a variety of social and recreational programs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The programs are designed to serve various levels and are supervised by our staff and/or our wonderful volunteers. To register for programs, just complete the registration page of this Recreation Banner and fax/mail/email the form to the Recreation Department. For new participants please contact our office for our welcome package! THANK YOU! Thank you to everyone who supported our 40th Anniversary Dinner Dance in September. We served dinner to 250 people and raised close to $8,000 for the Recreation Department! The volunteer planning committee did an amazing job along with Randi Rae who acted as the Master of Ceremonies and DJ! We look forward to more successful events in the future! The Arc s Walk & 5k Join us for another fantastic year on the Asbury Park Boardwalk for our Walk & 5k event! The Arc of Monmouth s Walk & 5k is one of the agency s largest annual fundraisers, attracting nearly 1,000 participants and growing each year. Step up for The Arc of Monmouth and race for the finish line or grab your friends and family and enjoy an exciting walk with a view. You do not want to miss this year s after-party in Convention Hall, featuring live music, giveaways, games and delicious food! Saturday April 8, 2017 Visit www.arcofmonmouth.org/walk to learn how you can get involved or contact the Development Office at (732) 493-1919 All proceeds go directly to The Arc of Monmouth s many programs that benefit individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Programs Tuesday Night Social Even though the Tuesday Night Social started in the fall, you may still register for it. It meets every first and third Tuesday of the month at St. Dorothea s located on Broad Street in Eatontown from 7:00-8:30 PM. This program is hosted by DJ Randi Rae and the J.B. Coyle Knights of Columbus. You will receive a schedule with dates and themes at the first dance that you attend. Begins: Tuesday, October 4, 2016 - June 20, 2017 Time: 7:00-8:30 PM Location: St. Dorothea s, 240 Broad Street, Eatontown Cost: $30 for members of The Arc $40 for non-members Fitness Join Randi Rae for a ten week high energy fitness class to get you into shape! Date: Wednesdays, February 1 - April 5, 2017 Time: 7:00-8:00 PM Cost: $55 for members of The Arc $65 for non-members Yoga Kelly, our certified yoga instructor, is returning for another session of yoga. This will be a low energy workout with no prior experience required. Date: Wednesdays, February 1 - April 5, 2017 Time: 7:00-8:00 PM Cost: $55 for members of The Arc $65 for non-members Our bowling programs have openings! Special Olympics Bowling Area Meet: Date: Saturday, February 4, 2017 Location: Ocean Lanes, Rt. 88 in Brick Bowling Sectional Meet: Date: Saturday, February 25, 2017 Location: Strathmore Lanes, Matawan Spring Games Singles Competition: Date: Sunday, April 2, 2017 Location: Brunswick Zone, New Brunswick (Now called Bowlero) Basketball Spring Games: Date: March 25-26, 2017 Location: Wildwood, NJ 2 Holy Trinity Basketball The Holy Trinity basketball program has openings in their program. The program meets on Thursday evenings at Holy Trinity School in Long Branch from 7:00pm 8:30pm. This is not an Arc of Monmouth program or Special Olympics. Programs/Special Events Basketball Openings: Our Shrewsbury Basketball Program is looking for two athletes to join their Special Olympic team. The program meets on Wednesday evenings from 5:30-6:30pm at the Shrewsbury Borough School from January- March. They typically have games on Sundays in February and March and will compete at the Special Olympic Basketball Tournaments. Anyone who is interested must know the rules of the game and be able to play full court basketball. Contact the Recreation Office if interested at (732) 493-0225 or at recreation@arcofmonmouth.org Cooking for Comfort Join Dottie and Rick for another season of cooking! In this class you will learn several recipes to make on your own throughout the winter months. Date: Mondays, February 13, February 27, 2017 and March 13, 2017 Time: 7:00-9:00 PM Cost: $25 per class or all three for $65 for members of The Arc $35 per class for non-members Circles Bingo Are you feeling lucky? Come get out of the house for a night of luck and chance! Bring money for snacks and the prize sale at the end of the night. This is a fundraiser for the Circle of Friends Club, now known as Circles Club of The Arc of Monmouth. Date: Saturday, March 11, 2017 Time: 7:30-9:30 PM (Doors open at 7:00 PM) Cost: $5 at the door includes 2 bingo cards This event is limited to the first 100 people at the door. No pre-registration taken! Volunteer Information Our department is based on volunteers helping out with our programs and special events. Without volunteers, we would not be able to have as many programs to offer to our participants. Many volunteer opportunities are available. We are always looking for new faces to come help out! If you or anyone you know is interested in making a difference in someone else s life, we have wonderful and rewarding opportunities waiting! Please contact us at recreation@arcofmonmouth.org after you have decided upon an event or program that you would to like to volunteer for. We need volunteers for: Joymakers Bowling on Wednesdays Special Events and Day trips Fitness on Wednesdays Basketball on Wednesday and Fridays Puppies and Pennies Save up your coins and bring them with you as you meet some very special furry friends. Donna Johnson is now a seeing eye dog trainer. She is bringing a puppy-in-training and an older dog for a visit. You will see how these wonderful dogs are trained to provide guidance and support to people who are blind or visually impaired. Date: Monday, February 6, 2017 Time: 7:00-9:00 PM Cost: $25 for members of The Arc $35 for non-members Legends of Pop Show & Lunch with The Arc of Hunterdon The Hunterdon Hills Playhouse is putting on a show to remember legendary performers like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Neil Diamond, and new tribute acts such as The Bee Gees, The Eagles, Billy Joel and more! Prepare to let the Mahoney Brothers take you through more than half a century of music in one spectacular show! The price includes your transportation, your served meal, dessert buffet, your show ticket and supervision. We are joining our friends from The Arc of Hunterdon for this wonderful full course lunch.
