2005-06 Summary Report Page 1 of 6 This report covers the activities and expenditures supported at Northern Kentucky University under the. During fiscal year 2005-06, Northern Kentucky University did not submit any requests for Commonwealth Excellence Matching funds as its 2004-2006 allocation had been fully disbursed by June 30, 2005. The match program has helped to create or expand a cumulative total of 32 endowments valued at $17,549,636 at June 30, 2006 (see Table 6). Since the program s inception in 1998, seven faculty positions have been established and all have been filled; seventeen scholarship/fellowship funds have been created with fourteen making awards; and eight mission support activities have been created with all reporting activities. Endowment Activity As shown in Table 1, no new endowments were created with match program funds in the year ended June 30, 2006. Table 1. 2005-06 Part I: Summary Report Page 2 of 6 All of the seven endowed professorships/chairs, fourteen of the seventeen endowed scholarships and all of the eight endowed mission support projects were active during the 2005-06 fiscal year. Overall, since 1998, a total of two chairs, five professorships, seventeen scholarships/fellowships, and eight mission support projects have been endowed through the program. As of the fiscal year ending June 30, 2006, seven professorships/chairs, fourteen scholarships/fellowships, and eight mission support projects were active. One of the mission support projects while active during 2005-06 did not report program expenditures as noted in Table 6. Sufficient university and other private resources were available to support the purpose of this endowed fund. Demographic Information Of the seven faculty members supported with funds in fiscal year 2005-06, two are white females, and five are white males. 2005-06 Part I: Summary Report Page 3 of 6 During fiscal year 2005-06, a total of 72 undergraduate students received scholarship awards from state matched endowed scholarships (see Table 4). Of the 72 recipients, race and gender information was available for only forty-nine recipients. Of the fortynine students providing information, four students, or 8%, were minority students, and one student, or 2%, was a non-resident alien (international) student. Twenty-three, or 32% of the total number of scholarship recipients, provided no demographic information. Of the 49 scholarship recipients reporting race and gender information, 27 or 55% were female and 22 or 45% were male. Sources of Funds, Earnings, and Expenditures During fiscal year 2005-06, Northern Kentucky University did not receive any state funds through the.
2005-06 Part I: Summary Report Page 4 of 6 Area of Concentration The 2002-2004 Guidelines stipulate that at least 50% of program funds must be used to support Programs of Distinction or new economy disciplines. NKU has received all of its 2002-04 match program allocation totaling $2,904,000. That amount was matched with $4,183,590 in cash gifts and pledges, bringing the total amount of 2002-04 program funds to $7,087,590. Of that amount, $4,230, 477 or 59.7% will be used to support the University s Program of Distinction. Table 5. Of the total market value, $6,878,773 or 39% represent state funds and 46% or $8,033,753 represent private funds received; $1,688,199 or 10% represent 2005-06 earnings. Foundation records show an outstanding balance of $313,484 in unpaid pledges (includes only private receivables, all state funds have been received) on these accounts. Over $350,000 was expended from these funds during the fiscal year ended June 30, 2006.
