Required Time Commitment for Bonner Leader Students at Union College The Bonner Leader Program is a four-year, 10-15 hour per week time commitment that focuses on service and leadership. Each applicant must successfully demonstrate that he/she will be able
to maintain this commitment of time. List any extra-curricular activities you anticipate participating in during your freshman year at Union College, such as athletics, band, and/or other things. Explain how will you balance your Bonner commitment with academics and other campus activities? Interest in Bonner Leader program/interest in community service The Bonner Leader Program is competitive and built around a large team of students working together in service and personal growth. Why are you interested in becoming a Bonner Leader at Union College? Why should we choose you? Instructions for Obtaining References for Bonner Leader Application: Please ask two individuals, not related to you, who are familiar with your community service involvement and/or your family responsibilities, to write a letter of recommendation for you. Provide each reference a copy of the attached letter which explains these instructions. Each letter of reference must include: applicants name, reference s name, reference s address and phone, how long reference has known applicant and in what capacity. Each letter should be placed in a sealed envelope with the writer s signature written across the envelope s seal. Each reference should address the following questions within the context of their letter. 1. Bonner Leaders must work with other participants and with people of diverse backgrounds. How would you rate this applicant s ability to build relationships with other people? 2. Due to the nature of the leadership positions, Bonner Leaders often work in conditions of hardship or inconvenience. They must be able to deal with new and changing living conditions, limited financial resources, and considerable amounts of stress. With these considerations in mind, how would you rate the applicant on his/her ability to work under pressure, ability to adapt, and use of good judgment? 3. Please describe the applicant s abilities, interest, skills, training, experience, and eagerness to continue developing these areas. Discuss any reservations you have or weaknesses you see in the applicant that could affect his or her success. 4.
