Huntley Fire Protection District District Information Huntley Fire Protection District, Illinois The Huntley Fire Protection District, a growing and progressive community located in Chicago s far northwest suburbs, is seeking candidates for the position of Deputy Fire Chief of Administration. The Community & Organization The Huntley Fire Protection District was formed in 1959, Huntley is a village in McHenry and Kane Counties, Illinois. The Huntley Fire Protection District is a separate taxing body which handles fire protection and emergency rescue service for the Village of Huntley, Lake in the Hills, Algonquin, Hampshire, Rutland-Dundee, unincorporated Kane and McHenry countries, and a 9-mile stretch of Interstate 90. The current district population as of 2010 censes is approximately 50,000 residents. The Huntley Fire Protection District currently has 57 full-time members, as well as 26 part-time members. The district is staffed by a Chief, two Deputy Chiefs, Fire Marshal, Director of Training and Safety, three Battalion Chiefs, and twelve Lieutenants. The entire district is under the direction of a 5-member elected Board of Trustees. There are four fire stations serving the district: the headquarters on Coral Street in downtown Huntley, Station #2 on Reed Road in the far northeast part of the Village (near Lake in the Hills), Station #3 on Regency Parkway in the southwest part of the Village (near Del Webb's Sun City Huntley) and Station #4 on Algonquin Road, west of Square Barn Road in Algonquin. The district also has a training facility located in rural Huntley near the intersection of Ernesti and Coyne Station Roads, and a maintenance facility on Main Street in Huntley. The department is a member of MABAS Division 5, 2 and Division 4/5 Lake and McHenry County Specialized Response Team. The department places a high degree of importance on the customer service it provides to both internal and external customers.
Huntley Fire Protection District Deputy Chief- Administration Job Description Distinguishing features of this position: The Administrative Deputy Fire Chief is responsible for directing, managing, supervising, and coordinating Fire Department programs and activities related to emergency medical services, technical rescue, hazardous materials, training, accreditation, and information technology. This position also coordinates assigned activities with other departments, divisions, and outside agencies; and provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Fire Chief. The Administrative Deputy Fire Chief works under the general guidance and direction of the Fire Chief and exercises supervision over department support services personnel directly or through subordinate personnel. This exempt management class works a standard 40 hour administrative work week and reports directly to the Fire Chief. Persons assigned to this class have complete latitude for decision making and independent action for planning, intervention strategies and action plans for programs within assigned areas. In the absence of the Fire Chief, an employee in this position may temporarily assume full responsibility for duties of the Fire Chief position. The Deputy Chief acting in the interest of the Huntley Fire Protection District, has the authority to or effectively recommend, implement discipline, assign work schedules, evaluate worker productivity, and handle complaints. This position is appointed by the Board of Fire Trustee s. Responsibilities and Expectations: The knowledge, skills and abilities of the Deputy Chief s position requires excellent interpersonal relationship skills, effective communications skills, extensive management skills knowledge and the ability to work well with teams and supervisors throughout the department. The Deputy Chief shall have a highly productive work ethic and demonstrate the ability to lead calmly under pressure while uncompromisingly pursuing the goals of the department. Responsible for the leadership and direction of emergency operations including emergency response, special teams operation, training, mutual and automatic aid and communications.
Responsible for representing the Huntley Fire Protection District with various city and village departments, community organizations and other governmental agencies. Expected to respond to large scale fires, special teams operations, EMS incidents, mutual-aid responses and assume assigned responsibilities within the Incident Management System. Expected to attend monthly officer meetings, officer training sessions and monthly board meetings. Submit monthly reports to the Fire Chief regarding emergency response and operations, monthly training activity, and personnel issues. Submit written reports to the Fire Chief as requested. Responsible for participation and assistance in the creation and management of the annual budget. Responsible for participation and assistance in accreditation. Performing other such duties as required by the Fire Chief. Minimum qualifications and experience: A Bachelor s Degree from a 4 year university. Must be a minimum of State of Illinois Certified Fire Officer II. Certified Illinois Incident Safety Officer or the ability to attain certification within one (1) year of appointment. Must have experience managing budgets, programs and projects. Must be able to pass an extensive background check. Must maintain the physical and mental ability to perform the essential functions of the District s firefighter s job description. Minimum of four (4) years of experience in the fire service at the rank of a Chief or Executive Officer. Extensive fire service operational and administrative duties at the rank of a Chief Officer. Must have EMT-B. State of Illinois Non-CDL Class B Driver s License.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience: A Master s Degree related to the Fire Service or completion of the National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer Program. State of Illinois certified Fire Officer III or Chief Officer Certification. Paramedic Salary Range: $115,000 - $121,000 Benefits: Full benefit package including health insurance, vacation days, sick days, personal days, IMRF retirement or the Illinois Article IV Firefighters Pension Plan. Working conditions: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work is performed both indoor (office, meetings, training sessions) and outdoor environments, in all weather conditions, including temperature extremes, during day and night time hours. The Deputy Chief typically works eight (8) hour days Monday through Friday and is expected to respond to large scale emergencies during the daily work hours, at night and on the weekends. The physical effort required will involve working in an office environment and responding to large scale incidents and participating as an integral component of the Incident Management System for extended periods of time. The noise level in the work environment at emergencies may be very loud. At times may exceed 85 decibels.
