Biographical/Historical Note Henry William McMillan was born in Robertson County, North Carolina, on July 18, 1830, to John H. and Janet McNeil McMillan. He received his education at the University of North Carolina and moved to Arkansas in 1856 where he married Frances Toole Williams a year later. He worked as a school teacher and lawyer in Camden, Arkansas. Gantt. After the war, McMillan moved his family to Arkadelphia, Arkansas, where he helped establish the law firm of Stewart, McCabe and McMillan. He practiced law there until his death in 1910. The McMillans had six children: Estelle McMillan Blake (1861-1950), Elizabeth Swan McMillan Crawford (1866-1956), Dougald McMillan (1868-1933), John Henry McMillan (1871-1939), Carrie McMillan Wallis (1875-1940), and David Williams McMillan (1877-1962).
