Brainport Foundation Triple Helix It s all about the Triple Helix cooperation and Brainport s Innovation ecosystem, which has made the region to a success, both at national and at international level. TG 5: Other horizontal area: Triple Helix cooperation After the redundencies in the 90 s, municipalities in the region decided to cooperate. They created a successful foundation for economic structure Brainport reinforcement. Foundation Triple Helix Businesses, government and knowledge institutes started working together more closely. As a Triple Helix they laid the foundation for the innovation ecosystem Brainport. Knowledge institutes Government Business

Brainport Foundation Triple Helix Facts and figures In 2011 Brainport Eindhoven Region was voted Intelligent Community of the Year 2011 by the Intelligent Community Forum. R&D investment totals 390 million euros of public funds and a good 2.1 billion euros of private funds. Brainport Eindhoven Region has more registered patents than any other region in Europe.

Smart Health Care Co creation with citizens The process Involving citizens in the earliest phase of an innovation process. In combination with SME s, care companies, the municipality and the knowledge institutions - Triple Helix. It showed the environment that cooperation on societal tasks using a co-creation approach is needed to foster innovation.

Smart Health Care Co creation with citizens Result The end result is the foundation of the corporation Slimmer Leven 2020.

Campus International School Eindhoven TG1: Innovative financial instruments TG 2: Public procurement and innovation Main objective project: The main objective of this project was realising an excellent international schoolcampus. The former locations of the two schools were too old and too small. The municipality owned an old monumental barrack which was empty. It was decided to use this old monumental barrack as the new location of the two schools. Doing this project the traditional way, it would have been too expensive, but through PPP/DBFMO the project was affordable and realizable.

TG1: Innovative financial instruments Voucher system Public sector stimulating innovation A FASILIS Voucher is a cheque worth 6.000,- which is distributed by the FASILIS partners. SME starts an innovation project By using this Voucher to purchase an innovation service from a provider in one of the other FASILIS partner regions for which it has requested the Voucher. 67 SMEs have been working on innovation projects with 51 facilities from other regions.

Voucher system LifetecZONe cluster in the province of North-Brabant BerkelBike Improved connection of wheelchair to bike The Frauenhöfer Institute successfully optimized the coulping mechanism between a wheelchair and a bike attachment of the BerkelBike: a bike developed for people who are unable to use a normal bicycle. Ossatec's Bone Growth Stimulator: a new way of healing bones Ossatec s bone growth stimulator uses electromagnetic pulses. To prove it actually works, they have facilitated a first class study on the treatment of broken bones by using the FASILIS voucher.
