AUGUSTINE TOMORROW Miami, FL U.S. Senator Marco Rubio s (R-FL) staff will host a comprehensive recovery assistance center in St. Augustine on Friday for residents affected by Hurricane Matthew. The offices of U.S. Representative Ron DeSantis (FL-06) and St. Augustine Mayor Nancy Shaver are also helping coordinate the event. The organizations, companies, and federal, state and local agencies that will be on site to help residents is listed below. Northeast Florida was hit hard by Hurricane Matthew, and many homes are severely damaged, flooded, or just completely gone, said Rubio. I saw this devastation firsthand last week, and spoke to residents about what they need to recover from this storm. This comprehensive recovery assistance center will serve as a one-stop shop to help those in need fully start the difficult process of putting their lives back together. I m grateful to Congressman DeSantis and Mayor Shaver for joining my office in coordinating this event, and to all those in the community who will be present to share resources and provide services to the people of St. Johns County. AUGUSTINE HELPS 257 FLORIDIANS TODAY St. Augustine, FL The office of U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) hosted a comprehensive recovery assistance center in St. Augustine today for residents affected by Hurricane Matthew. Due to high demand, the event remained open overtime, and by last count at least 257 Floridians had been assisted, including 201 requiring specific assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. A local seafood establishment was forced to lay off its employees due to the storm's impact on the business, and about half of them sought temporary unemployment assistance. I want to thank all the agencies and local officials who came out today to assist the people impacted by Hurricane Matthew, and especially the agencies and case workers that stayed well past the scheduled closing time to make sure everyone who came was served, said Rubio. When a natural disaster like this strikes, it's the role of government at all levels to provide a safety net to help our people get back on their feet and coordinate a response that ensures they are able to do just that. As our state continues recovering from Hurricane Matthew, my office stands ready to assist with any needs that may arise or any problems people encounter with getting stuff done.
