TRAC Mission and Organization The mission of TRAC is to produce relevant and credible operations analysis to inform decisions. HQ TRAC Monterey Ft Leavenworth White Sands Missile Range Fort Lee TRAC Mission Essential Tasks Conduct the studies that inform key decisions made by TRADOC, Army, and Joint leaders. Lead analysis of current operations. Develop and maintain the scenarios to underpin Army concepts & requirements. Develop, configuration manage and apply verified and validated models and simulations (M&S). Research, develop and share new analytic methods and modeling. Conduct Studies and Analysis Conduct studies and analyses of the integrated, combined arms battlefield related to doctrine, leader development, organization, materiel, and Soldier; to include analyses of alternatives. Ground Combat Vehicle Analysis of Alternatives (AoA). Network Integration Experiment Analysis Support (conducted at Fort Bliss, TX). Army 2020 Force Mix. Long Range Precision Fires Study. Infantry Brigade Combat Team Capabilities Portfolio Review. Gender Integration Study. 3

TRAC Support to Deployed Forces Deployed analysts have leveraged TRAC-wide capabilities to address issues posed by deployed commanders and their staffs. One military analyst deployed to Philippines. Two military and two civilians deployed to Afghanistan. Enemy use of culverts for IEDs. Blue Force Tracker analysis tool. Insurgent tactics, techniques, and procedures. Route Clearance Teams asset allocation. Ground combat vehicle requirements. Corps assessment framework and tools. C-130 Augmentation of CH-47s. >44 Cumulative deployed years. 65 officers and 25 civilians. 4

Develop & Maintain Standard Scenarios TRAC (Executive Agent) Prepare development plan; coordinate input and participation; lead development and maintain the Army Family of Operational and Tactical Scenarios. Defense Planning Scenario Nested Corps / Division Scenario Brigade / Battalion Scenario Joint, integrated, combined arms operations. Operational Environment (OE), today out 15 years. 5

Develop & Apply Models and Simulations Develop, maintain, configuration manage, and apply tactical and operational-level simulations for Army and Joint use. Force-on-force operations. Soldier to Company/Team through Corps level. Joint & combined arms. Asymmetric and irregular threats; complex environments. Gap assessment, knowledge acquisition, and research to develop methods and models. Federation builds and use. Research & rapid tool enhancement to depict future operations. Payoff to larger simulation community. 6

Diverse Partners & Clients Allies: Bilateral and coalition operations research with allies, governed by nation-to-nation data exchange agreements (United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, France, Germany, Republic of Korea). Universities: Academic research and professional development (Kansas State, New Mexico State, Naval Postgraduate School, Johns Hopkins). Industry: Cooperative R&D Agreements (CRADAs) with industry (Raytheon and ACI). DoD Laboratories & FFRDCs: Member of National Lab Consortium; teaming with MITRE and Rand. Also: Joint Staff. OSD Staff. STRATCOM. Combatant Commanders. Marine Corps & Air Force. United Kingdom Ministry of Defense. North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
