CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1-1. SCOPE. SECTION I. GENERAL INFORMATION a. Type of Manual. Instructions in this manual explain how to use the M295 Kit to decontaminate individual equipment. b. Model Number and Equipment Name. The official nomenclature is Decontamination Kit. Individual Equipment: M295. The NSN is 6850-01-357. 8456, which identifies a box containing 20 kits. c. Purpose of Equipment. The M295 Kit allows you to decontaminate your individual equipment through physical removal and absorption of chemical agent with no long term harmful Decontamination Kit. side effects. 1-5. CORROSION DATA FEEDBACK. Corrosion Prevention and Control (CPC) of Army Materiel is a growing concern. It is important that any corrosion problems with thus item be reported so that the problem can be corrected and improvements can be made to prevent the problem in future items. NOTE: Use of key words such as "corrosion", "rust", "deterioration", or "cracking" will assure that the information is identified as a CPC problem. a. Definition. While corrosion is typically associated with rusting of metals, it can also Include deterioration of other materials such as rubber and plastic. Unusual cracking, softening, swelling, or breaking of these materials may be a corrosion problem. b. Reporting. Such problems should be reported using SF 368 (Quality Deficiency Report). Each M295 Kit consists of a carrying pouch containing four individual decon packets, enough to do two complete individual equipment decontaminations. Each packet contains a decon mitt filled with decon powder. b. Accountability. M295 Kit is expendable. Discard carrying pouch after packets are all used. c. Storage. M295 can be stored over a wide range of temperatures from severe cold to hot: -60 deg. F (-51 deg. C) to 160 deg. F (71 deg. C). 1-4

OPERATING CHAPTER 2 INSTRUCTIONS SECTION I. DESCRIPTION AND USE OF OPERATOR S CONTROLS AND INDICATORS 2-1. GENERAL. Always keep in mind the WARNINGS, CAUTIONS. and NOTES Do the inspection procedure to ensure M295 Kit is ready for use. WARNING May be slightly irritating to skin or eyes. Keep decon powder out of eyes, cuts and wounds. Use only water to wash powder out of eyes, cuts and wounds. Avoid inhalation of decon powder NOTE Dispose of expended or leaking materials in accordance with local Standard Operating Procedure. 2-1
2-2. INSPECTION PROCEDURE. a. Inspect kit for loose black decon powder. If no powder is detected, kit is mission ready. b. If powder is detected, inspect each packet for leaks. c. Discard all leaking packets. d. Reinsert good packets into carrying pouch. NOTE If there are fewer than four decon packets in the carrying pouch. request an additional kit. M295 Kit can be stored in one of the battle dress overgarment (BDO) trouser pockets. 2-2

Grasp green (non-pad) side of decon mitt with hand you don t write with. Pat the other gloved hand with decon mitt to start the flow of decon powder onto glove. Then rub glove with decon mitt until completely covered with decon powder.
2-3. OPERATING PROCEDURE Cont'd g. Insert the decontaminated gloved hand inside the decon mitt. Make sure the pad side is in the palm of the hand and the thumb sticks through the appropriate thumbhole. Tighten the wristband on the gloved hand securely. 2-5
2-3. OPERATING PROCEDURE - Cont'd h. Decontaminate individual equipment by rubbing with pad side of decon mitt until thoroughly covered with decon powder. Pay special attention to areas which are hard to get into (for example, cracks, crevises, and absorbent materials). (1) Decontaminate other protective glove. (2) Decontaminate exposed areas of mask and hood. (3) Decontaminate weapon. (4) Decontaminate helmet by patting it with decon mitt. i. Discard decon mitt. 2-6

Then perform the following: (1) Decontaminate load carrying equipment (LCE) and accessories (canteen, ammo pouch, first aid pouch, etc.). (2) Decontaminate mask carrying case (3) Decontaminate protective boots. (4) Repeat decontamination of protective gloves k. Discard decon mitt. l. If liquid contamination is still suspected or detected, get another packet and repeat steps a through g. Rub or blot areas where contamination is still suspected or detected. 2-7
