Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Program Fall 2013 Demographics Survey Prepared by Danielle Pearson Date: 10.17.2013

Introduction The Chaffey College Health Science Demographic Survey was completed by 19 CNA students over the Chaffey College Internet during the Fall 2013 Semester. The purpose of the survey was to obtain information required for Accreditation. Executive Summary CNA Students Demographics of CNA Students (Please refer to Table 1.) 94.7% were California residents 89.5% were female 15.8% were 19 years old or younger, 52.6% were 20 24 years old, and 10.5% were 25 29 years old 42.1% were Hispanic and 5.3% were African American Characteristics of CNA Students (Please refer to Table 2.) 57.9% had at least one dependent living with them 10.5% were single parents 36.8% travelled 10 miles or less from their home to Chaffey College, 31.6% travelled 11-20 miles, and 31.6% travelled more than 20 miles 52.6% were not employed, 31.6% were employed 20 hours or less per week, and 15.8% were employed 21 or more hours per week 52.6% were eligible for Financial Aid 47.4% were receiving Financial Aid Health Care Work Experience (Please refer to Table 3.) 10.5% had previously worked in the Health Care field Student Ratings of Preparedness (Please refer to Table 4.) 89.5% of the CNA students agreed or strongly agreed with the following statement: In the classroom I am comfortable with most subject matter. 84.2% of the CNA students agreed or strongly agreed with the following statement: I feel welcomed into the health science program. Main Reasons for Choosing CNA Program (Please refer to Table 5A.) 42.1% of the CNA students indicated that their reason for choosing the CNA program was that it was recommended by a friend, while 10.5% indicated it was recommended by a college counselor. 42.1% indicated their reason for choosing the program was not listed and provided a text response to elaborate on the reason. Please refer to Tables 5B-7 for student text responses. 2
