A Letter from the Chair Dear Potential Sponsor, On behalf of this year s entire organizing committee, I would like to thank you and your company for taking the time to consider being a sponsor for the 39th annual Ontario Engineering Competition (OEC). University of Ottawa is honoured to host the competition at Canada s capital from January 26th to 28th, 2018. Every year OEC brings together over 300 of the brightest young minds from 16 universities across Ontario. All engineering students come ready to showcase their technical talents, collaborative abilities, and communication skills. Each team compete in one of the eight different categories, all designed around the central theme of automation, a principle of solving the problems the smart way. One of our goals as the organizing committee is to focus on achieving an even better relationship between the sponsors and the competition. We are confident that we are progressing to host the best OEC yet, including increased networking opportunities, enlarged competition size, and improved participating experience. This invitation package highlights the various levels of sponsorship that are being offered for OEC 2018. We are willing to work with you, however, to refine any details in order to best accommodate your organization s needs. Large scale events such like this are only possible with the generous support of organizations like yours truly. We hope this interests you and we are excited at the prospect of working with you to celebrate the future of engineering success. Thank you again for your consideration. Yours sincerely, Herman Liao 4

A Letter from the Dean Dear Potential Sponsor, The Faculty of Engineering is very pleased that the University of Ottawa is hosting the Ontario Engineering Competition in January 2018. Our faculty has a long tradition of actively encouraging and supporting student pre-professional activities and participation in competitions. The University of Ottawa is the third largest university of Ontario and the largest bilingual (English - Français) post-secondary institution in the world. Our downtown location alongside the historical Rideau Canal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a jewel of Canadian engineering, will allow OEC 2018 participants to appreciate the important role that engineering played in the early years of our great country while offering an opportunity to skate on the largest outdoor natural ice surface in Canada. Other major engineering projects will also be taking place in the immediate vicinity of the campus in 2018: major renovations to Parliament Hill s historical buildings and the final stage of the construction of Ottawa s light rail transit system. Our faculty seeks to foster the development of leaders, in and outside the classroom. We are proud some of our brightest students have committed to organizing Ontario s largest student engineering competition. To make this competition a reality OEC relies on the generous support of sponsors. I encourage you to join our faculty and other generous contributors and partners in supporting OEC 2018 through your sponsorship. As a sponsor, you will be able to connect and aid with the development of the next generation of engineers, entrepreneurs and innovators. I have no doubt that, together, we will be able to provide the many Ontario engineering students who will participate at OEC 2018 with a unique pre-professional, educational, and fun experience in the heart of the National Capital region. Sincerely, Ioan Nistor, Dean Faculty of Engineering University of Ottawa 5

About OEC The University of Ottawa is proud to be hosting the 39th annual Ontario Engineering Competition (OEC) from January 26 to 28, 2018. This 3 - day competition welcomes over 300 of the province s brightest minds to face off in 8 unique engineering competitions. OEC is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the talents of emerging student leaders from across the province. Industry representatives are invited and encouraged to attend all aspects of the competition, including dinners, observing the build process, and participating in the sponsor marketplace. This allows ample opportunity for competitors to network with industry professionals from a variety of engineering-related fields, and offers the chance for your organization to attract these accomplished and aspiring engineers. Each competing team has had to win their university s qualifier in order to advance to OEC. They will demonstrate their design skills, creativity, and communication abilities at OEC, and should they win, they will move on to represent Ontario at the Canadian Engineering Competition in March 2018, hosted by Ryerson University. 6

Theme: Automation Each year, a different theme is determined in order to provide the competition with its own identity. This year, the theme chosen by the committee was automation to highlight the ability of the engineers to design and build a fully fledged system that functions with little to no human interaction. This requires teams to innovate and come together with teamwork in order to find the best approach to the problem. The theme aims to expose the Ontario engineering talent to these challenges such as in large manufacturing plants and improving the home via automation in the hopes that the competition inspires their creativity and innovation for the future. 8
