Introduction The Chief Eecutive and Board of Trustees are ambitious for YBI to continue the growth trajectory of recent years and support ever greater numbers of young people globally in achieving life changing outcomes for themselves and their communities. We work to engage, inspire and secure new supporters, in line with our ambition is to be recognised as the leading global implementation partner in youth entrepreneurship. The Fundraising Team fosters and builds eceptional partnerships with local, regional and global donors for the resourcing and sustainability of the YBI Network Team and YBI Members, enabling us to support thousands of young entrepreneurs in line with our ambitious strategy for growth. We regard public and private sectors as equally important in delivering our work, and seek to align and leverage supporters across all sectors, including through innovative multi-partner collaborations. Over 2013 2015, YBI secured significant investment across multiple countries with important partners across public and private sectors (e.g. DFID, IADB, Accenture, Barclays, BG Group). We have enjoyed repeat si figure major gifts in recent years, but this area of our resource raising has not matched our public sector and major corporate successes. For the net stage of our growth we need to develop and implement a clear strategy for fundraising and communications that will increase and diversify our income significantly and manage the balance between fundraising for the network and fundraising for specific members and regions. We need a much more active and sophisticated approach to diversifying our corporate supporter base, including an eperienced and systematic approach to increasing our unrestricted funding base. This ambitious agenda requires significant investment in the fundraising team and development of the resource raising and communications structures, systems and processes. We are looking for an eceptional leader to develop and implement a robust and ambitious fundraising strategy across all donor sectors; to deliver a step change across our unrestricted fund raising base; to build our marketing and PR capacity through well defined communications; and to join us in working with passion and commitment for under-served young entrepreneurs globally. Central to this will be the development of a contemporary and creative INGO brand with a global profile. YBI is ambitious about the role brand and communications can play in helping us reach our strategic objectives and we are seeking a candidate with proven eperience in brand development and growth. The Director of Fundraising & Communications will have line management responsibility of a talented team of 5 fundraising professionals and 2 communications managers. The teams consists of a Head of Partnerships, Corporate New Business Manager, Partnership Development Officer and Fundraising & Communications Officer. We are also in the process of recruiting a Partnership Development Manager. A key priority for the Director of Fundraising & Communications will be to lead the development and implementation of the Fundraising & Communications strategy. The Director of Fundraising & Communications will work closely with other functions across the Network Team, including the Partnerships, Evidence & Learning team, the Network Members team and the Network Capacity Development team. The Director of Fundraising & Communications will be a key member of the Senior Management Team (SMT) and will report directly to the CEO. 2
Principal Responsibilities & Duties Strategic leadership of the Fundraising & Communications team Lead on creating and maintaining strategies for sustainable resource raising and for marketing and communications to bring about transformational performance in the Fundraising & Communications Team. Streamline the processes and systems within the Fundraising & Communications team, improving the use of the Salesforce CRM tool. Contribute to the leadership and organisational strategy, planning, policy and decisionmaking as a member of the Senior Management Team. Resource Raising Develop, support and lead the fundraising team to deliver a wide range of project and program propositions. Supporting their cross team working to design, write and budget each. Manager the development of the pipelines including Institutional, Foundation and Corporate donors Identify new sources of funding such as staff fundraising, regular giving and events. Monitor the donor engagement and stewardship plans, making sure that they are delivered. Develop targets for resource raising for the YBI Network working with both YBI Members as well as network team colleagues. Create campaign fundraising strategies, working closely with the Programme Delivery Team. Adopt a commercial focus to build income generation beyond established fundraising strands with sustainable, new and innovative ideas, testing new concepts and initiatives. Cultivate a network and personally manage a top prospect list drawn from high net worth individuals, corporate partners and grant making sources to lead from the front and have a measurable personal impact on fundraising goals. Draw on insights, data, knowledge, learning and connections from across the YBI network team in establishing and building new and eisting resourcing partnerships across the private, public, HNW and foundation sectors. Oversee the development of a balanced, sustainable and diverse range of income sources (i.e. the right income mi ) working with other functions in the network team to understand preferred, optimal partnership design and profile of funders. Ensure the Fundraising & Communications team works collaboratively with the Capacity Development and Partnership Programmes teams to co-design and facilitate smoothrunning of each and every proposal and resulting donor relationships. Communications Further develop and review the delivery plans for Communications, marketing materials and Digital support, to raise brand awareness and profile with the targeted sector/s Building relationships with a wide range of media for both traditional press and digital communciations Develop further the brand, our position and awareness both within the UK and Globally Continue to develop our Digital strategy to engage with a wide range of target audiences, managing the YBI website and other sites such as YEP/LAC, social media, blogs and events. Champion the YBI brand guidelines, making sure that every communication is aligned 3
Integrate and design communications as an overarching function of the organisation supporting the achievement of the organisational goals Create and implement a dynamic communications strategy to ensure that all aspects of the charity s work reflect a clear brand image and that our messaging is always reaching new and diverse audiences Advise CEO and SMT on, and implementing, agreed communications strategy to build brand awareness, position the organisation on the market/sector, communicate activities, achievements and impact Engage with and develop YBI s Brand, liaising and sharing with peers in the network; and coordinating and collaborating with all parts of the YBI network in global campaigns and initiatives. Adopt a commercial focus to marketing and comms that drives clear links between activities and results, optimises the marketing mi and improves campaign analysis and evaluation. Work closely with colleagues to refine YBI s voice and communicate the vision to internal and eternal audiences Ensure that opportunities across the organisation are maimised to promote YBI s work to new and eisting audiences Ensure the strategic and tactical use of digital and new media to manage our key messaging, enhance our reputation and to respond quickly to adhoc opportunities and connect our work to wider media and journalistic trends Leadership and Management Provide direction, epertise, guidance and leadership on all resource raising and communications activities. Lead the Fundraising & Communications team and drive for full maimisation of income generation opportunities. Provide appropriate leadership and vision to the Fundraising & Communications team whilst implementing plans and monitoring progress against budgets and KPIs. Ensure a focus on the bigger picture is retained across the team and manage the detail of day to day operations. Delegate key functions to managers within the team, ensuring decisions are taken at the lowest reasonable level within agreed objectives and risks. Person Specification Criteria Essential Desirable Knowledge and skills A passion for fundraising with at least 8+ years of professional eperience and a proven track record in successfully cultivating, designing and securing major multi-million, mult-regional partnerships with institutional, private sector and large foundation/trust donors, and HNW individuals Minimum 3 years eperience of work at Deputy or Director level within an NGO Direct eperience in international development and developing global partnerships particularly multi-laterals.
