HISA s HEALTH APPS CHALLENGE 2013 FULL COMPETITION INFORMATION As Australia s peak body for e-health and health informatics, HISA acknowledges the potential of mobile applications to improve health and facilitate healthcare by empowering clinicians with information and empowering consumers to take charge of their own health and wellness. Following the success of HISA s 2012 National University Apps Challenge, in 2013 HISA will continue to champion the development of mobile health applications and open eligibility for this competition to a broader audience. COMPETITION AIMS HISA s Health Apps Challenge 2013 aims to: Create an annual national focus and forum for m-health and budding app developers Provides a catalyst for innovation and growth Increase awareness of the role of apps in healthcare Encourage creative and innovative minds to apply their talents to health needs and challenges OVERVIEW Participants are required to design* an innovative health related mobile application that facilitates and improves the way individuals experience or receive healthcare or access and use information that can improve health outcomes. Participants are invited to focus their applications on (but not limited to) the following four target areas, with users of the apps being clinicians, patients/consumers or healthcare managers: Mental health Oncology Indigenous health Chronic disease management PCEHR Other * Applicants to the HISA s Health Apps Challenge 2013 are not required to actually develop their app prior to entry in the competition. Submissions involve a video presentation of the app concept addressing the criteria outlined in the submission application. The application can be for a mobile smartphone, tablet or any other mobile device. WHO SHOULD APPLY? HISA s Health Apps Challenge 2013 is open to all interested individuals or teams of individuals. There is no limit to the number of people you may have in your team. The app concept must be original and not available commercially before the close of the competition (17 July 2013). SUBMISSION APPLICATION FORM SUBMISSION Entrants are required to complete a video entry of their app idea. In addition they must complete an entry form which has the below questions. VIDEO SUBMISSION Entrants must create a video that demonstrates their app idea and upload this video to a video sharing website. The video must be two to five minutes long. Participants may use any video editing programs to create this video, or they may create a powerpoint presentation and save this as a video file. Both sites are easy to use and offer free accounts. Submissions will be accepted up until 9.00 AM EST on Friday 21 June 2013. Final submissions must include a completed team information form and a link to the URL of the video demonstrating the app idea. SELECTION AND REVIEW PROCESS Submissions Gallery Evaluation Criteria by HISA members Submitted videos will be displayed on the HISA website from Monday 24 June until Sunday 30 June 2013. HISA members will have the opportunity to log into the HISA website and view the submissions gallery. Each HISA member will be entitled to one vote based on the following criteria: HISA members will evaluate the app concept as presented in the video, following the below criteria: Evaluation Criteria Score from 1-5 (1 lowest, 5 highest) Usability Will the application be easy to navigate and use by its intended audience? Appearance Is the application attractive and created with appropriate use design elements (colours, logos, shapes etc). Perceived value in Will the application be of added value in healthcare? healthcare Effectiveness Is the app likely to achieve what it is designed to achieve? Following voting by HISA members, the top five entries will be shortlisted. These 5 shortlisted entries will be presented to a Judging Panel who will vote to select the winner. In the event of a tie the chair of the Judging Panel will select the winner from the tied entries. JUDGING PANEL There are 6 places on the judging panel. Judging will be done online via a reviewing portal. Judges will be given one week to review the shortlisted submission. Judges will be required to dial into a conference meeting to finalise results and to determine the winners on Wednesday 3 July. The 2013 Judging Panel will include the HISA CEO, the winner of the 2012 HISA Mobile Health App Challenge, a representative from our sponsor Bupa, a representative from our supporters, the Department of Health and Ageing and Accenture. Members of the Judging Panel will make their decision via review of the application form and the video submission for each shortlisted entry and will use the same evaluation criteria used by HISA members to cast their final vote. The judging panel will reach their decision by 3 July. SHORTLIST The top five shortlisted teams will be notified by email on Monday 1 July 2013. All team members from the top five shortlisted entries are encouraged to attend HIC, the Health Informatics Conference 2013 where they will have the opportunity to network with leaders in the health informatics field and have their entries display at the conference as part of the HIC 2013 exhibition. During HIC they will have the opportunity to meet with and receive feedback from the judging panel and get professional advice for the development of their health app idea. WINNERS 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd place winners will be announced at the HIC 2013 Gala dinner Wednesday 17 July.. Winners will be notified that they are shortlisted prior to the dinner. Winners will be profiled on the HISA Health Apps Challenge 2013 website, and HIC 2013 website. It is to the discretion of the Sponsors if they would like to profile the winners within their networks. TERMS & CONDITIONS 2013 1. PROMOTER The Promoter is Health Informatics Society of Australia Ltd (ACN 097 598 742) of 1A/21 Vale Street, North Melbourne, Victoria ("the Promoter"). 2. WHO MAY ENTER The only persons who are unable to enter and be awarded prizes are those who are employees of the Promoter and Sponsors, or the immediate family of such employees. Immediate family" means spouse, parent, child or sibling, whether or not they live in the same household as the employee. 3. CONDITIONS OF ENTRY By entering the competition, participants agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. 4. LIMITATIONS ON ENTRY Participants may submit more than one competition entry. All submissions must be received by 9:00 AM EST on Friday 21 June 2013. Following close of submissions all video applications will be displayed for members only on the HISA website (www.hisa.org.au). All HISA members will be entitled to one vote. The top ten submissions will then be presented to a judging panel who will vote to decide first, second and third place. In the event of a tie the chair of the judging panel will select the winner. 6. PRIZE Prizes for this completion are at the discretion of principal sponsor Bupa. 7. NOTIFICATION OF WINNERS The shortlisted will be notified by email on 1 July 2013. The winners of the competition will be announced at the HIC 2013 Gala Dinner on 17 July 2013. In the instance that place winners are non-contactable and do not respond to notice that they have been chosen as a place winner, they will forfeit the competition. 8. ENTRIES All entries remain the property of the participant. Entries not completed in accordance with the conditions of entry or received after the closing date will not be considered. 9. PRIVACY The details contained in your entry are protected by security safeguards as detailed in the Promoter's Privacy Policy, which is also available on this website. The personal information collected as part of the entry is collected to enable identification of the winner and for future marketing and promotional purposes.
