From the Desk of the City Manager This is a weekly communication to the Hollywood City Commission to advise the elected officials of projects and programs of interest. QUIPS SkyWarn Severe Weather Spotter Class The National Weather Service will be hosting a SkyWarn severe weather spotter class/presentation from on Thursday, February 13 th from 2 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. in the Hollywood Emergency Operations Center. This interesting, informative, and free course educates individuals on how to properly identify and describe hazardous weather conditions. It is also part of the City of Hollywood s effort to attain the National Weather Service s prestigious StormReady designation. Filming in the City of Hollywood The Office of Public Affairs is working to permit various shoots for two productions currently being filmed in Hollywood. The pilot for a new TV series called Hoke is being filmed in the Park East neighborhood of Hollywood. Filming began on Thursday, February 6 th and will continue through Monday, February 10 th. The series stars Paul Giamotti as a detective and is set in Miami in the 1970 s. Additionally, a feature film starring Jim Belushi called Change of Heart is being filmed in Hollywood. The Office of Public Affairs is working with the Police Department, Fire/Rescue, the CRA, and Parking to permit this production. They will be shooting various scenes on Hollywood Beach and a series of driving shots along Hollywood Boulevard between the intracoastal and Dixie Highway. CURRENT WEEK OF FEBRUARY 3, 2014 FEBRUARY 9, 2014 Technical Advisory Committee Monday, February 3 The committee met at City Hall to discuss the final site plan review for: A mixed-use project comprised of 40 condominium units, 367 hotel rooms and accessory uses located at 4111 South Ocean Drive, Hyde Beach Resort. Façade renovations and addition to an existing commercial building located at 349 Johnson Street, Hollywood Wings. Concerts on the Beach You are invited to enjoy Music and Dancing Under the Stars every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evening along with Broadwalk Friday Fest and Saturday Bandstand. Presented in partnership with the CRA, concerts are from 7:30 p.m. 9:00 p.m., weather permitting, at the Hollywood Beach Theatre located on Johnson Street and the Broadwalk. All concerts are free. CURRENT (continued) Marine Advisory Board Wednesday, February 5 The board met at 6:00 p.m., at the Department of Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts Administration Office, 1405 S. 28 th Avenue. The landscape architecture and urban design firm, EDSA Inc., presented the analysis information for the Marine Waterway Master Plan. The Marine Advisory Board has been involved and updated on the process and will be giving their input and suggestions. Two public meetings to present information on the analysis are set for 6:00 p.m.: Tuesday, February 18 Hollywood Beach Culture and Community Center 1301 S. Ocean Drive Monday, February 24 Rotary Park 3150 Taft Street Hollywood West Concerts Join us at the Boulevard Heights Amphitheater on the 2 nd Saturday of each month from 7:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. The amphitheater is located at 6770 Garfield Street. Bring a blanket or chair for comfort and your appetite - - fun for the entire family! Food is available for sale. Parking and concerts are free. The performance for January will be: Happy Daze (50 s & 60 s Rock & Roll) Drawn to the Beach 5K Run/Walk This 5K Family Run/Walk, being held on the Broadwalk at Charnow Park, promotes health and raises funds for educational purposes. All Broward County magnet schools have been invited to participate and earn money for their schools. If you are a part of a school that hasn't signed up, please feel free to do so. This event is sponsored by Beachside Montessori Village PTSA. Pre-registration begins at 7:00 a.m. and the cost is: Adults - $25; Children, - $10. UPCOMING (continued) Planning and Development Board Thursday, February 13 The board will meet at 6:00 p.m., in Room 219, City Hall. The board will discuss: Variance to reduce the required front yard setback for a single family home located at 308 Balboa Street. Design modifications for a previously approved project including 34 townhomes located at 1840 North 27 Court, Hollywood Landings Townhomes. Special Exception to expand an existing school to include grades K-5 located at 1308 South Federal Highway, Sunshine State Academy. Change of zoning designation from low intensity industrial and manufacturing (IM-1) to Planned Development (PD), approval of the Master Development Plan, special exception, variances, modifications, design, and site plan for an approximate 125,000 square foot Charter School. The school is located at 2025 McKinley Street, Hollywood Charter Academy, Grades 6-12. Variances, design, and site plan for an approximate 6,000 square foot commercial building located at 5647 Hollywood Boulevard, Shops at 57 th Avenue. Variances, design, and site plan for an approximate 2,400 square foot commercial building and façade improvements to an existing shopping center located at 3599 Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood Presidential Plaza. Allocation of 40 Reserve Units from Flex Zone 92 to incorporate residential units into a hotel development located at 4111 South Ocean Drive, Hyde Beach Resort. The Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) and the City of Hollywood request a Text Amendment to the Zoning and Land Development Regulations to expand the geographic boundary(s) of the Downtown CRA s mural program.
