Diploma of Nursing ABOUT THIS COURSE Looking for a rewarding career helping others? If you want to become a nurse, this is the minimum qualification required to work in any state or territory. Upon graduation and registration, you may find work in acute care hospitals, aged-care facilities, adult daycentres and community health services as an Enrolled Nurse (EN). This qualification covers the application of nursing skills and knowledge required to be eligible for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia in line with some state/territory nursing and midwifery regulatory authorities. Studying this course offers you an opportunity for dual enrolment into La Trobe University as part of the Diploma to Degree program. JOB OPPORTUNITIES Enrolled Nurse DELIVERY METHODS On-campus The majority of teaching and assessment is conducted on-campus LOCATIONS McKoy Street Main Campus VIC DURATION Full-time: 18 months DELIVERY SCHEDULE Four days per week, 9am-4pm, with some additional self-directed learning.

FIELD PLACEMENT All students will undertake 400 hours of clinical placement when studying the Diploma of Nursing. Clinical placement is divided into blocks and students are required to attend from Monday to Friday as rostered (this involves shift work hours, for example 7am- 3.30pm or 2pm-10.30pm and may also require some travel). For successful completion of the course, 100% attendance is required at all rostered placements. The exact dates are arranged and timetabled into the program, but may change subject to clinical venue availability. The specific aims of the clinical placement are: To apply knowledge learned during your course in the workplace; To gain skills that are recognised by industry; To become familiar with employers expectations; To increase your employment options and employability skills; and To make contact with employers. Prior to placement students are required to have verification of their current immunisation status. If you do not have record of your immunisation status you will need to visit a medical practitioner to obtain written proof of protection against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, hepatitis B, tuberculosis (VIC), Tuberculin (NSW) and polio. Annual influenza vaccine is not required, but strongly recommended. As a full course of vaccinations may take several months to complete, you are advised to consult your doctor in advance of the commencement of your studies. Furthermore a current National Police Records Check and a valid Working with Children s Check is also required prior to placement and if you are found to have a criminal record, placement is up to the discretion of the clinical venue and is not guaranteed. There is also the requirement to obtain a Working with Children check prior to placement in most cases.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS As part of a standardised assessment process, Wodonga TAFE will be conducting entry tests for the Diploma of Nursing to ensure that requirements of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) are met. During this test applicants will be assessed on Literacy, Numeracy, and English Writing Skills. Registration for this VETASSESS test must be completed via Eventbrite, https://www.eventbrite.com.au/d/australia wodonga/vetassess-test-diploma-of-nursing-wodonga-tafe/?crt=regular&sort=best, and then select from the registration dates that appear. All VETASSESS registrations must be completed by the applicant by 12pm on the business day prior to the test date, via the registration page. VETASSESS dates are: Wed 8 Nov 2017 at 1pm, or Tues 21 Nov 2017 at 5pm, or Wed 14 Mar 2018 at 1pm, or Tue 10 Apr 2018 at 1pm, or Tue 1 May 2018 at 5pm, or Wed 16 May 2018 at 1pm. Attendance is required strictly 15 minutes prior to start time in Room A116, Building A, Wodonga TAFE, 87 McKoy Street, Wodonga. Please present to Customer Service (Building A) for directions to testing room. All candidates must attend with their Booking Confirmation and their Photo ID. Please note: Completion of and passing the VETASSESS entry test does not guarantee a place in the Diploma of Nursing course at Wodonga TAFE. Numbers are limited and selected applicants will be contacted to attend an interview. Applicants must gain an Exit Level 3 for all components of the test (a score of 14 or above out of 20 for the English Writing Test is equivalent to an Exit Level 3) to meet eligibility for selection into the course. You will be notified of the outcome of your interview, and if successful you will be forwarded course-specific enrolment information and documentation. 7. Finalisation of enrolment will take place on presentation of the provided enrolment and associated course documentation to Wodonga TAFE s Customer Service, Building A-Lower, at which time fees are payable. Diploma of Nursing students now have medications units delivered in their training. This Diploma level course will require approximately 8-16 hours of self-directed learning per week.
