BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing/ BSc (Hons) Mental Health Nursing Interview Day for September 2016 Entry
Interview Guidance Congratulations on gaining an interview for our BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing/Mental Health Nursing course. The information in this booklet will assist you in preparing for your interview and will give you an idea of what to expect on the day. You have been selected for interview on the strength of your application. We feel you demonstrate a range of attributes and qualities that indicate you have the potential to succeed as a healthcare professional. The process requires you to attend a formal interview so that we have a chance to make a decision as to your suitability for our course. You too must make a decision, based on your findings at interview, as to which university and course you think would best meet your needs as a learner. It is our aim to ensure you leave us with sufficient knowledge to make your decision wisely. We hope that you will enjoy your time at Leeds Beckett University. Do remember that an interview is a two way process and that you should treat the interview as an opportunity to ask the course team questions. Requirements of the day We expect that applicants come dressed appropriately for an interview on a professional course. Whilst we appreciate you may be accompanied to the University, there will not be space for additional people (e.g. parents) in any of the sessions. The City is a very short walk away, and there are University catering facilities in the Leslie Silver and Rose Bowl buildings. On arrival, you will be directed to register with the Student Admissions team and receive a schedule for the day s events. The session will begin with an introductory talk. After this you will undertake the literacy and numeracy components of the interview schedule. The remaining components of the interview schedule take place after lunch. You should plan to be at your interview for the full day and you should make travel arrangements accordingly.
What the day will involve The interview day is designed to identify those applicants who demonstrate the values that align with the NHS Constitution as well as those who evidence the right skills and aptitude in accordance with Values Based Recruitment. After the introductory talk, the first part of the interview day will involve undertaking tests to assess your literacy and numeracy skills. To fulfil the requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Council [NMC] you will be expected to undertake a series of short exercises: The literacy exercise involves a short English comprehension test in the computer suite The numeracy exercise involves a short mathematics test in the computer suite You do not need to bring a calculator with you for the numeracy exercise as there will be a calculator available for you to use on the PC in the computer suite. We recommend that you prepare for these tests by familiarising yourself with secondary school age practice material in maths and English comprehension. Following the completion of the tests, there will be a short break while the tests are marked. During this time, you will have the opportunity to chat with current students who will share their experiences of studying at Leeds Beckett University. Only those applicants who successfully achieve the pass rate in both the literacy and numeracy tests will be asked to stay for the afternoon session. If you are unsuccessful in the literacy and numeracy tests, we will be unable to consider you further for our pre-registration nursing courses and you will be free to leave If you are successful in passing these tests you will then be invited to remain for an individual interview (lasting approximately 15 minutes) with an academic member of staff and a service user or carer. You will have an opportunity to take a lunch break prior to your interview. Our Food Court offers a wide range of hot meals as well as freshly prepared sandwiches and salads and a variety of drinks. You are of course welcome to bring your own lunch if you would prefer. Should you require any additional support with learning needs, or have any special requirements for attendance, please email disabilityadvice@leedsbeckett.ac.uk as soon as possible.

Alternatively, we may contact you directly to ask you to send us your results once you have received them. Once the results of your DBS check, Health check and academic results have been received we will be able to consider making you an unconditional offer.
