I know through good communication and team work all of us will move forward in our endeavors. There are some Post Officer positions not filled. We need a Chaplain and a Historian. Please consider serving your Post! Keep in mind there is always someone that can and will help getting you started. Remembering our Soldiers on Memorial Day by placing flags at their grave sites is a small way that we honor those who have served our Nation. Thanks to all who participated. Each of us knows the good and warm feeling that an event like this gives oneself. Try it, you will like it! Many thanks to the SAL for hosting the Chicken & Bluegrass event. Please support the SAL LUAU coming 5 Aug. Starting in July you may purchase Crab Feast tickets for Saturday 23 September in the Lounge. Enjoy your 4 th of July Holiday. I am proud to serve as your Commander. ALL of you, should also be proud for the projects and contributions made to our Community, our Soldiers, both Active and Veterans, and, Patriotism and Honor to our Nation. All Gave Some and Some Gave All As Always, Sharon Hurtt Auxiliary Unit President Phone 443-694-1108 Email:mtwoman1@comcast.net Georgette Hill Secretary...from the Squadron Greetings Everyone I d like to start by updating you on two important fundraisers we recently had. With Fill the Bucket over Memorial weekend, we were able to raise $1100.00. In June our Chicken and Bluegrass fundraiser allowed us to donate $1000.00 to the Reisterstown Crisis Center. Although I understand we were competing with a couple other community events in our area, it was still a good day. I want to thank everyone who helped make both days successful. Whether you volunteered your time, donated money or both at any of our events, the gesture is rewarding in knowing that the money raised goes toward our veterans, our community and our post home projects. During my 2016/2017 term, the SAL was able to donate $11,489.00 to various programs. Great job to all those who helped make that happen and thank you. With that said please save the date for our Annual Luau and Pig Roast on August 5 th from, 7pm to 11pm with DJ Rockin Roy Tickets are $25.00 which will also include, hot dogs, hamburgers, homemade salads, sauerkraut, corn on the cob, desserts, beer wine and set ups. The SAL will be cooking the pig this year. Tickets are on sale now in the lounge. This is always a good time. Remember the Ace of Diamonds tickets is drawn weekly. This game continues to grow and drawings are every Friday at 8:00PM. Stop by the lounge to get your tickets. Our next meeting will be on July 13th at 7:00 PM, Please consider making a meeting and getting involved. Thank you for your continued support! wishing everyone another successful year! 4 THE POST REPORTER JULY 2017 American Legion Riders We ve had some nice weather for getting out on two wheels! I hope you all are taking advantage of it. The Maryland Legacy ride took place recently with a ride starting in Towson, circling around the top of the bay with a stop at Rock Hall. There was a stop at the Veterans Cemetery at Hurlock. Then on to Salisbury before returning to the western side of the bay. After a lengthy ride they made it to the westernmost stop at Cumberland before returning to Towson. It was a great weekend ride and very successful in raising over $25,000 for the American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund. Way to go, guys! Sgt Boul has been getting out, how many of you have joined him for a short ride? SATURDAY July 15th, 2017 7:30AM-10AM VETERAN VICTOR & VETERAN VICTORIA BENEFITTING AMERICA S VETERANS A Carefully Crafted Collection of Cream of the Crop Colloquialisms Createed to Clarify Conspicuous Concerns! (Whew!) Greetings Legionnaires! First and foremost, we want all our friends reading this to enjoy a happy and HEALTHY summer. For those with respiratory or other extreme hot weather conditions, PLEASE exercise discretion and caution when venturing outside. It s not unusual for many to associate the 4 th of July as the Happy 4 th of July! holiday. Indeed in a random survey I conducted of about 100 people, approximately 40% (40 people) associated the holiday by it s inaccurate name. Pleasing it was though, to conclude that roughly 60% correctly identified July 4th as Independence Day. Independence Day is America s birthday. In 1976, America s birthday was also called it s bicentennial (200th) birthday. This day is an annual celebration commemorating the anniversary of our nation s assumption of independent statehood. The holiday celebrates America s independence from England. Independence Day is a fascinating holiday! I sincerely urge anyone interested in learning more than the basics, to visit www.independencedaywiki. Our monthly breakfast is held early so that you guys can eat well and then go for a ride. It is $4 for those under 10 years old and $8 for the rest of us. Menu includes: Unlimited scrambled eggs, pancakes, biscuits, gravy, bacon, sausage, dessert, coffee and juice. THE POST REPORTER JULY 2017 9 SAL MEMBERSHIP Greetings All, I have not corresponded with all of you for a while, it s good to be back in touch. I have taken on the task of membership to give Barry a much needed break, man does he deserve one. He has handled this task for many years without a hitch (maybe one). I just hope I can learn quickly and not have too many issues, so with that being said, please be patient. I, with my support staff, will get it accomplished. When you have a problem or question, please contact me so we can work it out. Remember, dues are due July 1st and you can get an Early Bird $2.00 discount when you pay by Veterans Day, November 11. Our squadron has been at 4 Star status for so many years that I can t even say for sure, but it has been many. Let s not end the streak this year. Pay early and sign up a friend.
