Call for Nominations 2017 Nightingale & Luminary Awards Continuing the Tradition of Recognizing Excellence in Nursing Professional Engagement & Citizenship The Colorado Nurses Foundation announces a Call for Nominations for 2017 Nightingale & Luminary awards! The 2017 Nightingale/Luminary Awards recognize nurses who exemplify the spirit of a citizen of the profession through advocacy, innovation, or leadership. There are two awards, 1) Luminary Awards which are regional award recipients that will be announced on April 1, 2017 at the Denver Metro Regional Nightingale Celebration and 2) Nightingale recipients, who are state level award recipients. All Luminary award recipients are eligible for potential selection as a Nightingale award recipient and receive recognition and an award at the state event in May 2017. 2017 Nightingale Luminary AWARD NOMINATION NOMINATION DEADLINE: JANUARY 15, 2017 Please provide an online applicationdescribing how the nominee meets the criteria for the award for which she/he is being nominated. The application should focus on what was accomplished, how it was accomplished, measurable outcomes, and sustainability (This is not a lifetime achievement award). The application should be a collaborative effort between the nominator and the nominee. Please pay attention to the length of response to the questions asked in the application. Two letters of support must be submitted with the essay, from two additional sources (manager, doctor, patient etc.). Letters of support should demonstrate how the nominee has advanced the profession of nursing or has positively impacted his/her community through advocacy, leadership or innovation (1 page 12 font). Each nominee must be clearly identified in ONE of the categories of advocacy, leadership, or innovation. Generalizations are not helpful. We are looking for specific outcomes which have been achieved by the nominee and would not have occurred without her/his advocacy, leadership or innovation. Nightingale Frequently Asked Questions 1. When and where is the 2017 Nightingale Event? The 2017 Denver Metro Regional Nightingale event will be held at the Doubletree Hotel, 3203 Quebec St., Denver on April 1, 2017. 2. How do I nominate a nurse for the Nightingale Luminary Award? There are two different steps that must be completed in order to nominate someone for the Nightingale Luminary Award. The first step is submitting the online Nomination Form. This form gives us the basic info about your nominee including what category they are nominated in. The second step is submitting the proper nomination documents. These documents are: * Completed online nomination form 2 Letters of Recommendation one page each 11/12 font (Written by peers, supervisors, patients, etc.) A signed Consent to Nomination form You can find the nomination form and directions on how to upload your documents at http://www.centralcoahec.org/nightingale 3. What are the Nightingale Nomination Categories? There are two categories to choose from in the nomination process: Clinical Practice (50% or more in Clinical Practice) or Administrative (Educator, Researcher, Non-traditional practice etc. 50% or more in role). You then select an area of recognition: Advocacy, Innovation, or Leadership. 4. Can I nominate a nurse in more than one category and/or area of recognition? They can help show you where their biggest strengths lie.) 5. What is meant by Professional Affiliations on the nomination form? You will need to list the organizations that the nominee is involved, the duration with years of membership, and their role within the organization. 6. What do Certifications include on the nomination form? Please list any current SPECIALTY certifications the nominee has received. These DO NOT include BLS, ACLS, PALS etc.
7. How do I submit the nomination form and nomination documents? You can easily submit the nomination form and the nomination documents on our website www.centralcocahec.org/nightingale 8. Does the nominee have to submit an essay or any other paperwork? No. In previous years, the nominee has been required to write their own personal essay, but they are no longer required to do so. However, we highly recommend working with and/or interviewing the nominee while completing the nomination form. We always recommend having your essays and letters reviewed by another party to be sure you have not omitted information. 9. Should someone else review the application other than the nominee and nominator? Absolutely. Knowing what is in the nomination essay help prevent duplication of content, therefore painting a more robust picture of the nominee. 10. Should the letters of support speak only to the event outlined in the nomination essay? No. Each letter should tell more of a story about the nominee with relevant supporting information. 11. Can I nominate more than one nurse? Yes, you can nominate more than one nurse. 12. How long do I have to submit a nomination? The deadline for this year s event is January 15, 2017. 13. What happens if I do not submit my nomination documents in time, will the nurse still be nominated? No. In order for a nurse to be recognized as a nominee, the nomination form and ALL nomination documents must be turned in by the final deadline.
2017 Denver Metro Regional Nightingale Event HOSPITAL/AGENCY PACKET Thank you for your support of the 2017 Nightingale Event! In order to make an event of this magnitude successful, it is crucial that the Nightingale Committee and your agency have clear lines of communication. We have put together a packet that includes vital information about nominations, deadlines, and the actual event itself that can be used as a tool to answer any questions you or your staff may have. Contents of Packet: 1. Agency Timeline This document shows you what is happening and when throughout the process. Please note the important dates like the nomination deadlines, RSVP deadline, and the date of the event. 2. Call for Nominations from CNO/DON This document should be given to your CNO/DON. It contains information about how to nominate a nurse, nomination deadlines, and how to sponsor their nominees at the actual event. 3. Call for Nominations from Hospital Staff- This document should be disseminated amongst the staff at your discretion (via email, hospital mailbox etc ). It contains information on how to nominate fellow nurses and the important deadlines associated with nominations. 4. Call for Nominations Poster This poster should be posted around various areas of your agency to get people excited about the event! It contains information about the event and how to nominate a nurse. Please copy as many as you need! 5. Nightingale Frequently Asked Questions Contains questions that we are most commonly asked throughout the process. This can be given to anyone who has questions about the event and/or kept at your desk if any questions are directed to you. 6. Nightingale Nomination Guidelines Nominators are required to submit an online nomination and acquire two letters of recommendation for their nominee. The guidelines outline the criteria for each piece. All nomination forms must be submitted online. The Nominee and Nominator should work on this together.
