Caregivers feel an ethical duty to do no harm to patients. Some will put their own safety and health at risk to help a patient. Violence is becoming more common inside U.S. hospitals. 2010 Report from Joint Commission Hospitals saw significant increases in assault, rape and homicide from 2007-2010.
